What a wonderful experience. By far the best out of all the attractions. Our Tour Guide Hone was extremely informative, funny and interesting. Highest of honors to him. The whole experience was like stepping back in time and the village has been well maintained and kept it's integrity. The waterfall was spectacular. I have never been so close to something this powerful. Also a little scarey. The whole tour was worth the price of admission and affordable, which is not something that can be said of other attractions in Rotorua. I recommend this as a must see and do.

Went the the Buried Village yesterday. Our family was shown around the site by a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. Not only was the tour interesting the surrounding views of the lake and the waterfall walk were also amazing.

Well worth going to when in the Rotorua area!

“History enthusiastically brought to life”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2011

Had a great 3 hrs on the site. We went on the site tour conducted by a gentleman called Hone. He has an amazing talent with a stage presence to bring the archaeological diggings to life! This was thoroughly entertaining as well as being very informative. The grounds are beautiful and the indoor displays have detailed information about the events and relics. Well worth a short drive from Rotorua past the blue and green lakes. The guided tour is a must and was excellent value!

“A must see in Roterorua”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2011

There are so many sights to see in Rotorua for thermal activity and local customs but the Burried Village brings the two together showing how the local villages and customs were effected by an eruption. This was a great experience and our guide Hone was the best. He was entertaining and full of information.

“Fascinating day out”

Spent the morning of April 11th at the Buried Village, the museum is fascianting, full of interesting information, but for the best experience, get there for the guided tour at 10.30am. My guide was Hone, a brilliant chap who knew so much about the village and its history, (as he should being the great grandson of one of the original guides to the Pink and White Terraces) and he imparted his knowledge well with a fantastic sense of humour. Take the walk to the waterfall, its well worth the 100 step descent and ascent. The cafe is great too, a fabulous Devonshire Cream Tea for $6 which filled me up right until tea time. Definately worth a visit.
