Owner description: Tamaki Maori Village – Evening Cultural Experience. New Zealand’s Most Awarded Cultural Experience! Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast!

We had a great nite with the maori tribe at their village.Very friendy villagers who couldnt wait to tell you all about their traditions and their culture. My brother was made chief of our coach which made our evening even more special. Would thoroughly recommend this evening.

The Tamaki Village experience is a must see / do attraction. The set up is that us, the tourists, are really visitors to and then guests at a real Maori village. Obviously, this cannot be quite the case but by giving in to this fiction visitors enjoy a friendly, fun and instructive evening.

I usually shun group tourist events such as these but recommend it wholeheartedly to others as an effective way to gain some understanding of life in a Maori village. The food's not too bad either.

The event was very well organised and the transport arrangements were excellent. The food was decent for the type of evening and numbers involved and there was certainly plenty to go around. The stage entertainment was good to and all the performers were very pleasant but we felt that they missed a great opportunity to tell the whole story behind their culture, background and history. We would have preferred less showmanship and more education.

- Food was decent, buffet type similar to Hawaiian luau.
- Little demonstrations (fun, carvings, dance, etc.) of the Maori culture were nice.
- Their dances were great.

- Overall a good experience; however, felt a little "scripted" and "commercial" for me. I don't remember learning much before and after the visit. The Maori performers are true Maori native people, and they are not as scary as they look (the face painting and tongue action). However, I don't remember any special or memorable aspect from this experience. Perhaps a little too touristy for me...

We were looking forward to go to this dinner event but ended up being bit disappointed.

First they told us they would pick us up from our hotel at 6:15pm for 7:30 pm show. So we scheduled our selves to arrive around 5:45to the hotel so we have enough time to settle down and take a look at our hotel before heading to the show. When we arrived, driver been already waiting. Seemed like for a while. We didn't even get to check in to the room and was taken in the mini bus which took us to their main office. Bus driver was very nice and informative.

After being dropped off there, we had to wait. .. for about 15 min. Then take another big bus to the village. Bus ride was informative and fun.

When we get there we see welcome ceremony etc and it was fun then dinner.

Dinner was tasty. Buffet style with fresh ingredients . But as soon as you finish taking the food or whoever the last person on line takes the food, they very very quickly take the whole buffet away. No time to go back to get some more food. So make sure you take the amount enough for you. Then desserts are served. By the time you eat desert, there is no time for you to enjoy tea or coffee. It's just whole dinner was total rush.

But performers seemed very energetic and passionate. Fun to do it one time.

Thank Rurina
