Owner description: Tamaki Maori Village – Evening Cultural Experience. New Zealand’s Most Awarded Cultural Experience! Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast!

Like many other reviewers I hesitated because of the price but we did have a great time. Our driver was Cairo and he made it a very fun ride to and from the village. It had been raining for days and it was raining all evening but they still managed to show us what they could in the village area. They did cut some of the demonstrations short due to the rain but I was impressed with the amount that they did. They prepare you for the cultural aspects before you arrive and begin as soon as you arrive to give you the feeling of being in a real Maori village. The dinner was great and you can eat as much as you like. We especially liked the chicken and the roasted carrots and potatoes. Dessert is included as is tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. They also open a bar area where you can
Urchase beer, wine, and drinks during dinner They have a small area where you can purchase gifts in the dinner hall. The entertainers truly want to give you a Maori experience and we learned a lot about the culture and the history of the Maori people. It is definitely worth the price.

With this being out first trip to NZ from the UK we wanted to experience the Maori ways. Although exepensive we thoroughly enjoyed the night from start to finish. We booked the later time and found it to be enjoyable, educational and good fun. Guest participation is a must and makes the experience that much better. The food was brilliant and there was lots of it - chicken, lamb, fish and plenty of vegetables!! Would definitley recommend!

Transportation provided from hotel. Our bus seemed a little well used compared to their other company buses that we saw. Entertaining Haka (war dance) and welcome. Felt a little rushed through the village presentations – note we did the early show, perhaps the latter one is more relaxed since it doesn’t have one coming in behind it. Would have liked to admire huts and carvings more. Hangi (dinner) was plentiful and very tasty. Chicken, fish, lamb, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, and oh so much more. Small gift shop available at end. Kia Ora! Good time, but expensive.

The whole night was very enjoyable. The bus driver was informative and entertaining, The maori warriors intimidating but then very welcoming. The Maori women informative and talented. The hungi meal most enjoyable. The whole evening went too quickly.

This was a highlight of our three week visit to the North Island. The bus ride in and out to the attraction was lots of fun. The Maori welcome and then interactive displays at the village were very informative, interesting and had us all laughing. The dancing, poy balls display and then singing were so well done they had us all cheering and applauding their skills. Finally the meal was delicious and there was plenty of it. I had thought the cost was too high and we weren't going to go but am so glad we did and it was well worth it!
