Owner description: Tamaki Maori Village – Evening Cultural Experience. New Zealand’s Most Awarded Cultural Experience! Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast!

We were picked up at our motel and entertained on the bus ride out. We were greeted with a form Maori greeting and then saw different demonstrations of life in the village. The presentation in the long house was entertaining and helped us learn more about the Maori culture. Dinner was traditional cooked in the ground and was excellent. The pavlova and baked brown bread were both special dessert treats. Neat place to visit and a senior citizen discount to boot. As the kiwi's would say, it's "sweeeet".

The cultural show before dinner was fantastic, my favourite cultural show so far! We were brought to see where our dinner was being cooked, taught to sing a couple of Maori songs - helped me to stay warm! Can't help but to also mention the desserts that followed - the trifle was swept right off the moment they are placed on the buffet line!

Make sure you book for an afternoon, evening or even an over-night at Tamaki Maori Village. It is amazing! We stayed overnight with ADVENTURE TOURS and it was the highlight for many of us. If you have a chance to book to stay the night - do it! You and your family will never forget. They have all the facilities you need. The meals are amazing and delicious and cater to all tastes. Their goal is to help you see, experience and remember their cultural heritage and make you want to learn more. It is very hands-on and perfect for any age!

Very expensive, but a must see for all. The kids loved the tour around the village and learnt the haka and games. They were the only kids on tour so put their hands up for all requests for volunteers. Food was good and the boys loved it being all you can eat. The tour overall takes 4 hours, from pick up to drop off.
