Owner description: Tamaki Maori Village – Evening Cultural Experience. New Zealand’s Most Awarded Cultural Experience! Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast!

This was one of the highlights of our trip to NZ. We had awful weather that week and i can imagine that it would have been 100x better if it wasn't pouring rain but despite that we loved it. booked same day and got a bus from the centre in Rotorua town. Sonny was our driver and made the experience all the more enjoyable. Great sense of humour and helped everyone have a lot of fun. Information and history is presented in such a sensitive and passionate way you cannot help but get caught up. The opening welcome was amazing, and the haka and show was wonderful. We had the traditional dinner and were lucky to be seated with some locals from Rotorua who came for the night and learn more about the Maori and the area. Bus ride home with Sonny good fun - he had every nationality sing a song, we sang Vindaloo - I think the first time he'd heard that from england.

I would strongly recommend you do this while in Rotorua - wonderful evening, wonderful hosts, learn a lot and have fun.
thanks!

We had been given much advice about attending one of these events. It is always an individual choice. For our view, it was a great and interesting evening. The food and entertainment was good, and our host were obliging and excellent. They always had time to answer all of our questions clearly and politely. The evening could have been a little long for our liking

It's hard to get cultural authenticity and a fun tourist experience. This group does it brilliantly. Fun but with a useful historical underlay so one learns without being patronised or patronising. One of the better Maori experiences on offer.
