Rydges Rotorua
Ranked #49 of 91 Hotels in Rotorua

I stayed at Rydges Rotorua recently during the course of a Medical Conference being held in the city of Rotorua, and found the charges for internet use were very high compared with what we have paid in other hotels and motels in New Zealand and around the world. I would certainly not choose to stay there again, because for the cost of the room, internet should be free or at least much reduced.

Room Tip: No tips to offer---no particularly great views from anywhere as far as I could see.

Large hotel within walking distance of the centre of town. The staff were efficient, the hotel and rooms clean. The rooms are large, however, I feel the rooms are 'very tired' and really need an upgrade. The room that I was in had grout missing from between some of the tiles, worn upholstery on the dining chairs, stains on the ottoman and could definitely do with modernising. The room next door also had the same sort of problems and had the edges of the carpet fraying quite badly. On the upside, the beds were comfortable. I did feel that the cost of the room was too high for the standard of the room. I pay less for much nicer rooms in other hotels. What I was very disappointed in though was the cost of their wi-fi, which was $30 for 24 hours. I feel this is exhorbitant these days. Most places I stay in offer free wi-fi or no more than $15 for 24 hours. Consequently I didn't have wi-fi for the four days I was there as I couldn't justify the cost.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the higher floors for the view.

Rotorua has plenty of choice for Hotels and motels and I have stayed in a number of diffferent styles of property over the years.
Rydges has gravitated to the first choice over recent times. Handy location to golf course and horse race track and just far enough out of town not to be too far . Friendly staff, good size rooms ,extremely comfortable beds, good variety of food on offer in the restaurant all supported by very professional but down to earth staff

I have stayed at Rydges on business trips as well as with the family. I have always had a good experience from the booking procedure, through check in to enjoying the large clean rooms. The quality of the breakfast is excellent and the kids love the place, thank you

After reading some of the negative reviews here for Rydges post our booking my wife and I were a little anxious about our stay especially with 3 kids under 5.

Those concerns were immediately eliminated once we arrived and had gotten to our room (A Spa Deluxe). The room was clean and tidy with more than enough space for us all relax and enjoy the space without feeling like we were tripping over ourselves.

We ate at the restaurant several times (Breakfast and Dinner) and as guests of the hotel our children ate/drank for free (including softdrinks) and found the food to be good quality with an excellent range of choice for us all.

Room Tip: If travelling with a family aim to book at least a Spa Deluxe room. We found the size more than sui...

On arrival check in was quick and efficient, the room was big which was good and clean. As at other places I have stayed the grout in the shower needed some attention but could not fault the hotel. Breakfast was excellent with a great choice. Would definately stay here again.

As has been stated before, although the rooms are a bit dated, they are very large, and ours on the 4th floor had very high ceilings. We booked the breakfast package online and the buffet breakfast had many delicious hot and cold options. If you stay here join the free rewards program first, we received 20% off all meals in the dining room, and the meals were excellent. When we stayed kids also ate free, and the kids meals included a huge dessert that was actually from the adult menu, so dining was a huge value for families. The service in the restaurant was superb, thanks Destiny! The pool has 3 separate pools of varying temperature, so something for everyone. There can be tour groups and because it is an awesome value for families, if you're on your honeymoon this may not be the hotel for you. But if you're looking for a solid, clean hotel with extra value options, I'd highly recommend the Rydges Rotorua.
