Stayed at this hotel many times since it opened about 13 years ago. A little tired now but would still recommend. Couple of negatives, no free wireless, the fridge didn't work in our room and the pillows provided are very thin. Good food in the restaurant and good service too.

We have stayed here 3 times now and the reason wekeep coming back is because of the great value for money. Often kids stay and eat for free.

The rooms are the best that Rotorua has to offer... I am qualified to say as I have stayed at all of the major hotels bar one in Rotorua. If you have kids this is the place to stay. Rooms (unless a suite) have 2 large (king I think) beds in each and an ensuite with a seperate spa bath room. There is a kitchen sink and tea coffee facilities and a fridge also which is handy. Also has kitchen cupbords for storeage.

The mezz bar is great and has a indonesian feel to it with the furniture and the bar staff are always elcoming to the children.

The dinner menu has some great food options and some Gluten Free ones too which is alway good for our family.

Breakfast is awesome value for money with a daily buffet. Sometimes there is a Gluten Free Bread option also. (Might pay to ask if booking ahead) Our kids love the indoor pool and the spa in the room.

For our family there is no other choice anymore when we stay in rotorua.

Hello there,

We really appreciate your feedback. We receive many great comments about our rooms and pool. Even with the big beds there is still heaps of space in the rooms as you would have seen.

When we had a menu change we made sure it catered for a lot of people and contains dietary requirement for all. I am pleased this was to your liking.

Look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Kind regards,

Craig

A serious disappointment, after staying in Rydges throughout Australia over many years.

Booked through Wotif, they actually had the audacity to say:

Inclusions:
Thursday 15-Dec-11
Shhh… super duper deal! Overnight accommodation with a WELCOME DRINK. Free in room
INTERNET useage. Heck we’ll even UPGRADE you to the next level of room type. Hurry this isn’t going to last long!

No free drink on arrival, and "in room" internet was a short cable above the kitchen sink/refridgerator area, maybe 150 mm long, and totally useless, as you cannot position a chair into the wedge of the 'fridge. Stupid. Who could use this?

I paid an extra $35 for two kids, no biggie. However, they didn't provide enough towels and pillows, and I notice that a call to housekeeping attracted an immediate 76c fee. They provided 2x little plates, 2x glasses, no cutlery of any description. How you could possibly charge $35 extra for kids, and not provide the basic essentials in accordance with the booking parameters, is completely beyond me.

In a word, a poor effort, and one which totally changes my approach towards Rydges group in Australia as an immediate result. Well done, Rydges Rotarua........

Being in room 108 on the 1st floor, we had no option but to drag our luggage up a 5 or 6 step flight of stairs, and wrestle with an inward-opening set of doors, in order to access the 1st floor rooms. Thankfully, none of us are disabled (and they APPEAR to have thought about the disabled, because there is a ramp leading up to the first floor entry area, which ended at the 5 or 6 stairs up, and otherwise however many stairs down - WTF?).

There is an art deco 1970's sink, but there is no washing up materiasls provided so that you can recycle the "generous" 2x plates for a family of 4.

This is just so disappointing, as I had hoped to provide impressive accommodation for the family, and it is an utter failure. I think that I will just go and top myself.

Room Tip: Go to above 1st floor, for accessibility.

My Partner and I had a staff function in Rotorua, we thought we would give Rydges - Rotorua ago and what a awesome choice that was. The room we chose was a Deluxe King room with a balcony and breakfast package. We got to our room and were just instantly in relax mode. The room was lovely everything was in there for us and it felt like we were the only ones in the hotel!! lovely corner spa in its own little room looking out into the township and balcony was a bonus.

The next morning went down for breakfast (Saturday) and again this was awesome lovely selection and as part of our package we could choose from the full breakfast buffet (yum yum) We were allowed to have a late check out at 1pm so we made use of our time in our room and hotel, later going for a swim in the pool which we had to ourselves also.

I recommend this hotel to anyone and also to sign up as a member as it is free and that allowed us to get a discount on our accommodation package which saved us a bit too!! Look forward to going back there again and visiting the other Rydges hotels around Aotearoa NZ and taking the kids too!! Love love love :)

Spacious rooms and quiet location overlooking racetrack. Thankfully we could escape the 'Rotorua smell' in our room. Good value for money!
Note - we actually traveled there in October 2010, not January 2011!

Room Tip: Our room wasn't quite ready when we arrived so asked for an upgrade and got one!
