“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2014

This hotel has a lake view and is no more than a 5 minute walk down to the water. Very close to a plethora of restaurants and also a close walk to the Polynesian spa. The rooms were nice and very comfortable! Was a very excellent choice for our 3 night stay in Rotorua.

We stayed here for a couple of nights and it was delightful. The lake- view rooms, the bar, the lovely lobby make it a delightful experience. There are several bars and restaurants located in the vicinity. But the entire city shuts down at 9 p.m. The proximity to IBIS gives you a peek into the rooms of the IBIS as well and vice-versa. This was the only flaw.

Stayed here for two nights. Initially we were not given a lake view as booked but as soon as we brought it to the managers attention he was very apologetic and professional and upgraded us to a junior suite which was lovely. Hotel is set quite a way back from the lake but still very pleasant and very convenient for restaurants and bars.

This was our 7th visit to this hotel, a lot of the hotel has had major improvements, especially Clarks bar and reception area, rooms were great and bed comfortable as always, good to be able to go for a sauna, swim and spa/mineral bath whenever you like in the 'pool house also a gym for those who cannot live without it for a couple of days!
the food was great and the dining room felt quite cosy with the renovated seating space

Room Tip: all the rooms are good but you pay a little extra if you want a view of the lake (superior room) la...

We stayed here for 2 nights and found our experience wonderful. Lovely lobby and restaurant food. Brilliant choice at breakfast. We had 2 adjoining rooms, one with huge king size bed, sofa, chair, table etc. and other room had 2 queen size beds. Facilities in rooms were all excellent.
Wi-Fi only available for 30 minutes in the Lobby and from a computer there. In this day and age I feel Wi-Fi should be freely available in the rooms. Spa and fitness centre were visited but we did not use them.
Highly recommended.

This was by first stay at the Novel, having stayed twice at the adjoining Ibis twice. The lobby is wonderful and very modern. The bar and restaurant are very modern as well. The website says a king or two twin beds. We had one bed but if it was a king, I am not sure by what standards. I would say it was a standard queen size. It did have great linen but of the four pillows on the bed, only one fit properly in the pillow case. The other three were much bigger that the pillow case and the one quarter to one third that wasn't covered, did not have a protector on it so it was a bit unsanitary to say the least - unless of course they actually clean the pillows after each guest. We had dinner and breakfast in the dining room. The food was good and the breakfast buffet (not included) really had a good selection - chicken sausage for example (mind you it wasn't marked so if I hadn't asked if there was anything that wasn't red meat I would not have known). The room had robes and slippers for the spa. The spa has a number of hot tubs and an indoor swimming pool. It was fine but there were guests speaking so loudly that you could not relax so I ended up leaving (it was about 9PM when one would just want to relax and have a bit of quiet after a busy day). The other thing I noticed in the spa was that there was a suggestion box but marked for locals only!! Very odd since a hotel surely must cater to tourists even if locals use the spa. The room we had overlooked the lake and it had a nice loveseat. We travelled with someone who was an Ibis/Novotel member and had a guest pass for 50% off our food so it worked out to be good value for us and the room rate was quite good. The location really is good and is right on the lake and right in town so you can walk everywhere. The hotel does not have free WIFI in the room but has a small amount of free time from the lobby. There is also a computer you can use in the lobby for free. These chain hotels have to start joining the independent hotels and start offering this service for free in the rooms. Our travel companions booked the hotel and it would not have been my first choice.
