We stayed at the Novotel for 3 nights in April 2013 and really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and roomy. We were upgraded to a lake view which was lovely! The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Location is fantastic and would recommend to anyone staying in Rotorua

We booked two rooms for a night earlier in mid April and had a great stay. We also had dinner in the restaurant which we enjoyed. However we are members of Accor Advantage Plus which reduced the cost of our visit - if we were paying full price then we may have chosen somewhere else in Rotorua.

The location of the hotel is excellent, and the rooms are very comfortable. The staff are also very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Lakeview are wonderful but cost much more.

Accommodation was adequate but believe me the restaurant was terrible. It was Mexican night but we still haven't seen any chilli yet except the ones on display. To be honest most of the food was in edible!!!! and it cost $52 a head, absolutely overpriced even if the food was good & I don't say that lightly either. Breakfast the next morning was only marginally better and we had to ask for a clean table and cutlery as the staff were so far behind. We won't be risking Novotel Hotels again.

Room Tip: Avoid meals

Dear Sally M,

I apologise that you had a poor experience in the restaurant. With our chefs originating from all over the world, we have tried to keep our ethnic dishes authentic for our 'Dine Around the World' Buffet series. While not all the dish where designed from Mexico (although there were a number of them in the Latin American series), not all have chilli incorporated in them - but there were at least two that should have tickled your senses, so I do apologise as it appears this was not the case.

Thank you
Fraser McKenzie

Enjoyed the room upgrade. We had a great stay in Rotorua. The room quality was excellent. We are regular visitors to Rotorua and we would stay at the Novotel as our first choice.

April 2013 we attended a conference in Rotorua staying two nights at this hotel. It is our prefered hotel in Rotorua having stayed on and off for over 20 years. We have always found the staff well trained and friendly, welcoming you every time you passed any one of them from the reception staff to the room cleaning people. The hotel is situated close to the lake and across from the reserve however close enough to the conference center to walk to and from even late at night this route is well lit and safe to walk.We ate in the hotel for breakfast but If you prefer eating at resturants or a cafe' there is a great range very close starting with one across the street. The Hotel offers rooms that are quiet at night and very comfortable for business or other travellers.
The only negative was the cold food (ment to be hot) on the breakfast buffet. There must be a better way to ensure customers are provided a hot cooked breakfast. That said the variety of food on offer was excellent. We will stay at this hotel in future as the small negatives are outweighed by all the other good benefits on offer.

Thank you for your feedback. It is disappointing the read that your breakfast experience wasn't up to scratch, my apologies for this. I have spoken with the Chef and asked that the Egg Cook (*whom is stationed out the front) watch that the hot food covers are replaced after use to ensure we present piping hot food for every guest.

Thanks for your feedback.

Most things worked as they should. Twice I had to get my room key recalibrated when it refused to open the door. That meant traipsing downstairs and back. The bathroom is old and shows it. The grouting between the tiles is not clean. The floor of the bath is dangerously slippy when showering. The prices in the restaurant are too high, especially for "continental" breakfast. It was impossible to get the air temperature in the room low enough for my comfort.

Thank you. While we may not be brand new, my expectation is that the room should be spotless for our guests. Unfortunately I am unable to ascertain your room number from this posting, if you would be so kind as to pass this to me via fraser.mckenzie@accor.com I will have this issue followed up on, and rectified immediately. My sincere apology for this unacceptable instance.
