“Excellent service at this Hotel”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

Went to Rotorua for a weeks holiday in May 2013, to take a well earned break from work, and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to stay in a "Club" room at the Millenium Hotel in Rotorua, New Zealand.

The service was great, the staff were all exceptional and most accommodating, even though the hotel was undergoing refurbishment in progressive area's. The Millennium Hotel is comfortable, functional, and delivered peace of mind relaxation.

If you want absolute ritzy accommodation, stay in Auckland or some other main "flash harry" cost the earth centre, but if you want a functional and relaxing not over the top holiday, then this hotel and Rotorua is a valid place to consider.

The restaurant food and other general services, were all very good and delivered with a personal touch, that made you part of the "Millennium Family".

We would absolutely go back to this hotel again.

We stayed at this hotel on our short trip to Rotorua on 31/05. Having lived in NZ, in the past and visited Rotorua on several occasions prior, Millennium has been the best hotel that we have stayed at.

First of all Kudos for the excellent customer service provided to us by John Chetta, the manager. He was extremely helpful, knowledgeable about rotorua - the attractions, restaurants etc., and made sure that we were looked after well throughout our stay. Even when we had checked out and sitting in the lobby, he came to check with us how our stay had been and if they could have done any better. Seldom you come across such a great service.

Apart from John, all staff were equally helpful and friendly.

The hotel itself is next to the Polynesian Spa at a 50m walk, it is close to the city centre with all restaurants within walking distance. The rooms are clean and well looked after.
We booked under Autumn special and paid only $109. We also got the $10/person special breakfast and that I could say was one of the best continental breakfast that you can get in Rotorua atleast.

Additionally, I would highly recommend you dine at NIKAU (inside of the hotel). It is surely the best fine dining restaurant in Rotorua. We ordered Mains, Desert and a drink each and paid $100, which is not at all pricey. The mains were between $28-$36.

Stayed here for a night as part of my stopover tour in NZ, check in was smooth and front desk staff was friendly. Was issued a key, my god is an old type key not the card key. Lobby look old and tiredbut well maintained. Room was moderate, furniture looks old, balcony was decent size facing the lake with few spa, eateries and open field just infront of hotel. Breakfast was average, service a bit slow but friendly. Overall experience was just okay.

Room Tip: Play the cart ride nearby which was fun

We were attending a conference here for two days...didn't stay here. The hotel has some nice/good features, a little dated in places but okay. Conference facilities are very good. Seating in the foyer is plentiful but very uncomfortable...too soft with no support.

Our refreshments were pretty good, we had a last night dinner which actually was disappointing, but maybe it suited the budget? It was pretty tasteless but with a wide selection of hot and cold. The salad bar looked good.

As usual the hotel charge for the wifi....when will they learn that there is the expectation these days that it will be free of charge. Well, the provided 20 mins one time only access per day.

First time at the Millenium Rotorua and to be honest I had no real expectation. I spend a lot of time in hotels and after a while they all look and seem the same.

The rooms at the Millenium were fine, clean and appointed as you would expect.

What really impressed me however was the restaurant, the food and the service.

We had a dinner last night for 14, always a bit of an ask when we hadn't booked in advance.

The staff bent over backwards for us. The service was way above expectation.

The food was amazing and totally blew us away as we really expected it to be like most hotels and mass produced and bland.

I had tempura calamari with an amazing coriander cream. Main course of lamb wrapped in bacon (yes I know this sounds unusual but it seriously worked) with an amazing reduction. The magic was the onion that tasted like it was a diced pickled onion that had been cooked in the jus but had retained its crunch.

I licked my plate.

The dessert, a super soft chocolate pudding. Amazing.

I was shocked.

Next time I stay in Rotorua I will stay at the Millenium just so I can eat there.

Oh and the wine list was great as was the Glen Livet in the bar after dinner.

Many thanks!

We stayed here for three nights last month in a triple room (2 doubles and 1 single).

I've stayed at this property many times over the last 25 years and nothing much has changed. Its a great place for the kids with the indoor heated pool and spas (which unfortuntately never seemed to be hot enough).

Rooms were adequate but tired however for the price we paid, I've got no complaints. For the second time our room was right near the service elevator which started up at 7am and went through to quite late which was very loud and very irritating.

Breakfast was average and I do object to a hotel of this standard using trestle tables. The chairs were old and the whole feel was one of being run down and neglected. We ate in the hotel restaurant for dinner and again the food was very average and disappointing for the price.

Had a great massage but was very annoyed to see unruly children being allowed to run, scream and jump around the spa pools inside the spa area.

Staff were friendly, polite and helpful.

It was value for money but the hotel is in dire need of a makeover.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the service elevator.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback and also for your return visits over many years. I can advise we do have plans ahead to refresh our rooms and apologise for the service elevator being switched on at such an early hour, this should not have happened. We are also starting an upgrade of the breakfast area this week so this will have a refreshed look shortly. We will also monitor the communal area more closely for noise but this can be a little difficult sometimes depending on numbers in the pools. We hope to see you again in the future.
Kind Regards.
