We stayed here for 2 nights and the overwhelming memory of this hotel was how hot it was! I know it was winter in NZ but it was ridiculous! We had to keep the balcony door open most of the night. The air conditioning unit was madly temperamental and so loud.
Other than that, the hotel was fine. Overall quite clean and what you would expect from a 4 star. We had a good view of the lake and the hotel is in an excellent location - close to the shops and restaurants... Only a few minutes walk away.
The pool was very nice but wasn't impressed at having to pay for the internet use in this day and age.
Not a hotel that stands out in the memory but a very pleasant stay nonetheless.

We enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable, breakfast average and the bar lunch we had, excellent. Free parking and close proximity to town and the Polynesian Pools was a bonus as we could walk if we wanted to. Very nice public spaces too, and courteous staff.

We appreciate a nice view (makes us relax more), so we upgraded. After bringing in our bags, the concierge called us over again and offered us a key to a better view, so we really appreciated that initiative. The room had everything we needed - very warm! so we were glad to be able to open windows and door to a balcony. We would have no hesitation in staying again.

Room Tip: Ask for a good view of the Lake.

We absolutely loved this hotel! We stayed here for 3 nights during our visit to Rotorua

Very comfortable beds, and nicely updated.

The location of the hotel was perfect for us, as it was right beside the polynesian spa, and close to the other activities we had planned. The Mitai bus came to the hotel to pick us up on our evening there which was wonderful.

Would definitely stay here again when we are back in Rotorua, no complaints whatsoever.

We never ate at the hotel, but instead ate at " The Fatdog " and the "Pig and Whistle" which both were terrific in our opinion as well.

It has been a wee while since I stayed at the Millenium. It was nice to see that my loyalty/history was recognised and I was upgraded to a Club Room. The rooms have been recently refurbished and are comfortable and tasteful. Unfortunately the water supply problems that seem to have plagued this property over the almost 30 years that I have used the property persist (I first stayed there during its opening). Shower early in the morning or shower cold because the water supply crashes very quickly - worse still on this occassion the water just stopped, then trickled, then ran a little, then stopped again ....

The staff were pleasant as always but oh so slow. A man could have died of thirst waiting in the bar and the chances of getting coffee at breakfast were pretty much none. NZ has a long long way to go in terms of service - Rotorua moreso than most places.

Room Tip: The Club rooms are refurbished and generally of a far better standard

I stayed at this hotel about 25 years ago when it was called the Hyatt Kingsgate and was one of the flashest in Rotorua and while not quite in this category now, it is has never the less been well looked after and is still a nice place to stay.
The pools comprising of a large heated pool and two spa pools are a very relaxing place to end up on a cold winters evening after taking a meal in the okay restaurant.
The lounge area has nice big sofas to laze about on and the hotel on the whole is very well heated which is a must in Rotorua.
There is alot of free parking available on site and directly outside on the road once this is full.
Location is good being right besides the major hot pools in Rotorua and within about 2 minutes walk of town and a big supermarket.
The rooms are comfortable and warm without being spectacular as they are a bit dated in places.
Overall though a nice place to stay for a couple of days while you take in the sites in Rotorua.

Room Tip: Get one with a balcony and lakeview which is called Superior Plus

We stayed 1 night in July - the room was absolutely miniscule, with 2 double beds squeezed in for some reason making it worse. No table, small TV on small dresser taking up needed space , only 2 of each wine glasses, cutlery - teaspoons only. Tiny bathroom. The room was so hot we had to open the windows even though the weather was terrible outside and we had the heating turned off. They should take one of the beds out, put the TV on the wall. Continental breakfast too pricey at $21. Parking pretty bad too - if you can get one.
We had stayed the night before at the Rydges which was 100% better
