“WELL TREATED”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

did a booking on Wotif at a very good rate so was not expecting what i got
When i checked in I was advised by the gentlemen that they had upgraded me to a superior room, which was surprising in that i was only in for 1 night
the Room 110 was on the ground floor and opened onto the front of the hotel
The room was well presented, well heated and very comfortable , and all furnishings of a good standard
The bathroom was of a good size and the housekeeping standards throughout were very high
Didnt get any traffic noise from the road althought i did have to tell a group of women who congregated outside my room at 11pm and made a lot of noise to move on
That was not the fault of the hotel just rather some ignorant women who didnt respect other people needs
Would i return yes i would in light of how i was treated , cant comment on other hotel facilities as i didnt use them , due to an early departure

To start, this is closer to a 3 1/2 star rating; however, I have no significant complaints. Rooms are clean, staff are friendly and helpful, and the pool is heated (naturally??) in the high 80s, low 90s. It was equal to a high end Days Inn. My guess is that the previous reviewers expected more prior to arrival.

positives:
Great Staff
Private Spas!
Liquor bottle store a block away.
Located in the middle of everything

Cons:
Nothing special. Doesnt stand out.

Conclusion: I would stay here again for the right price.

We were in one of the rooms on the side and it was very tired and sad. Like a ski chalet room in style. Carpet had burn marks. Case stand had 2 very impressive iron marks where the covering had melted. The shower managed to spray 360 degrees with very little focused on the person standing there. Surprising since bathroom was not the original. You need a torch to make a cup of tea as the lighting is very bad just where the jug etc is. Breakfast was good with the special deal. The balcony on the room appeared unsafe. Sure this perception was due to the extreme weathered effect they have achieved by never painting it. Reception has been done up to entice you in. Front rooms also done up as you walk past them in car park. But further back into the hotel you go the further back in time you end up. Bed was crap. Mattress certainly was the original.

Room Tip: If you want no frills then this is your place.

Thank you for your review. We do understand some of our rooms are in need of a refurb and we are continously upgrading our facilities in stages thorughout the hotel. We do have a mini refurbishment planned later in the year wich should see dramatic changes. Your comments are a great tool for our hotel to measure areas that are of concern to our guests and we welcome your feedback.

Copthorne usually is associated with quality, but not in this case!

We chose this hotel because they were offering a special rate during the Rotorua Marathon weekend and my husband was running his first marathon that weekend. Even with the special rate, it was overpriced. The lobby are looks very nice, but the room was anything but.

When walking to our room, the corridors look old and dingy. We passed a room with a spare bed outside waiting to go in. The mattress and base were old and tattered. Not a good look. Our room was much the same, old and dingy. The bathroom was the same. The soap dish was rusting. The shower head was clogged. There were only two towels even though our reservation was for four.

Upon check out the desk staff couldn't even bother halting her conversation with a friend to inquire about our stay or say thank you. The Copthorne in Rotorua was a huge disappointment.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

Thank you kindly for your review. We do realise parts of our hotel are looking aged but we are continuously upgrading all areas of the hotel on a regular basis. We do plan a mini refurb in parts of the hotel later in the year. We do have two types of rooms avai;able in the hotel superior rooms which are slightly higher in rate then our standard rooms. I was concerned regarding your comments about staff not acknowledging your stay when you checked out with us. I will definately be looking into this as we pride ourselves on our customer service. I do apologise for this service. Your comments shave been invaluable and without our customer feedback we could not measure our services.

Stayed here while my husband was on a course. When we arrived there was only one receptionist working and there was a bit of a wait to check in. They didn't ask us if we wanted smoking or not and it wasn't until we got to the room that we noticed there was a choice. Our room was in the old section and was very tired with awfully thin walls. The bathroom had been modernised it seemed although the shower was shocking and actually stopped working by the end of our 5 day stay. The bed was very soft and the sheets didn't look all that attractive. The pillows were very thin too. There was no aircon and it got extremely hot with the large picture window. As we were on the ground floor we couldn't leave the patio door open as the space outside is not fenced and is open to the road and public footpaths. TV only had one sky movie channel and a sports channel which flickered when planes went overhead!. The room wasn't vacuumed once while we were there and house keeping came before 9 a.m most mornings. Hubby had the breakfast buffet and was impressed. He ate in the restaurant every night and had the kiwi buffet. On the weekend it had lots of choice but on Monday and Tuesday night it was a lot more reduced and repetitious.
Staff were helpful. Bar prices were ok, comparable with town. Gym was adequate, Didn't use the pool or spa. Laundry was good, make sure you have a couple of $2 coins and some wash powder.
It's a long walk into town, at least 2km. We walked in for dinner on the Friday and asked reception if they had an umbrella we could use, they didn't.
All in all this hotel is adequate, nothing special and I would probably choose somewhere else if I was going to Rotorua again.

Room Tip: Ask for new rooms when booking.

Than you kindly for your review. We welcome any form of feedback as it is a positive tool we choose to build on. We have taken all your comments on board and have addressed them as a team. We are aware parts of our property are aged and we are in the process of upgrading certain areas of the hotel in later in the year. I was pleased to read the meals were to you liking as we get a good share of positive feedback about our buffets. Your feedback has been invaluable and an excellent tool for our team to build on. Thank you again and we hope to host you again.

We stayed as a family and breakfast was included. Although slightly tired there's evidence of the improvements being made to the hotel. Good facilities available such as pool, spa & sauna. Plenty of parking and the it was not too far to drive to the centre of town. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was buffet and good selection. So we were happy with our stay and the price was good.

Arrived and found our room was a long way from everything and very dated! Went to hang up clothes and found only 2 coat-hangers so asked for more and got 1 extra. Asked for more again (felt like Oliver holding his bowl up and saying "please sir can I have more") and had to explain why before the Manager would send some over but eventually got another 2. No air-conditioning but told they would send a fan to compensate. My wife bought two items from the vending machine only to discover they were out of date. A friend had the same experience with out of date food in the machine. When I advised the Duty Manager that they were selling out of date food at the hotel she replied that it was not her problem as it came from a vending machine not the kitchen BUT to her credit she said she would tell the vending machine operator the next time she saw him. Later sent an email to head office and they seemed interested about what happened and apologised. There are plenty of better quality AND lower priced hotels in the same area.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room in the new part of the hotel if you must stay here

Thank you for your review. Your feedback has been duly noted and the issues you raised have been dealt with directly to heads of departments. The vending maching operator has in place a rotational system so his merchandise is kept within expiry timeframes and this will alleviate any old stock being on sale. Thank you for your feedback it is appreciated.
