“Family friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013

Stayed one night with three children aged (10,5 & 4 months). Arrived earlier than expected and room was set to go. Security was amazing, staff helpful, attentive and friendly. Clean room and premises. Only negative was the parking. Overall do intend to recommend.

'Next to Lake' suggests lovely views over the beautiful lake in Rotorua...should read 'next to smelly sulphur flats'. I appreciate that Rotorua is always going to have its own unique smell (which is part of the charm?) but this hotel is near the particularly pungent area!
Room cleanliness; after checking in, we immediately went out for supper. On arriving back to our room at 11pm, we pulled back our bedding to discover that we weren't the first people to sleep in these sheets...I don't expect fresh bed linen every night but I do expect it on the first night!
Wi-Fi is not free- not unusual in a big hotel but once paid for, I struggled to find anywhere in the hotel with decent reception.
Woken early with coach parties noisily departing at 6am.
All-in-all, not a hotel that we could recommend or would return to.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. The sheeting on our beds do settle below the blankets resulting in some creasing, which may have appeared as though they had not been changed, I can assure you that it is definitely not the case! Thank you for commenting on the wifi and the noise caused in the coach access areas, both of these issues are currently being addressed.

Stayed 2 nights, very close to ammenities. Shops, resturants local attractions.Handy to the Blue Lake which is why we came to Rotorua. Very big hotel and felt we were tucked @ the back out of the way.

The Sudima is ideally located next to the lake and caters primarily for the 1 or 2 night coach tour stop (we were in such a group). The rooms are comfortable and the welcome warm but the food is basic and the buffet style presentation is not attractive after it has been hit by the first wave of travelling guests. It is close to the town and a large supermarket. There is no free wi-FI but a 2 hour access voucher can be bought at reception for 5 dollars. A bank of 5 washing machines and 5 tumble driers is available at the laundry and it is 3 dollars for a wash cycle and 3 dollars for a drying cycle with laundry coins on sale from reception. Overall a pleasant and relaxing stay during a busy schedule.

I stayed here for two nights, caught the bus from Auckland. It is a walkable distance to the intercity bus terminal and the rest of the CBD - restaurants etc are reasonably close by. The breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant was quite good. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The room I stayed in was of the mid price range, was a bit dated but well maintained and quiet.

You have to pay for wifi - from memory, I thought that this was quite expensive.

Had an enjoyable 4 days at this hotel. Very well situated to access any of the tourist, adventure, nature sites around Rotorua and extended region.
We particularly enjoyed being so close to a lovely boardwalk around the geothermally active part of Lake Rotorua as well as next door to the Polynesian Spa.
The Maori Dinner and entertainment was enjoyable, gives a good taster of Maori culture at a very good price. The heated swimming pool was great for relaxing in the evening.
The room seemed a bit old, but was very clean with all the services we needed. The internet costs are per device though.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

we arrived at Lake Sudima after a day long trip from Aukland. We requested for a room overlooking the lake, and sure enough, we got a room with a small balcony from where the lake was visible clearly. The smell of sulphur was not over powering yet it could get on the nerves after some time I suppose. What was most interesting for us was the thermal spa which was free for the resident. You had to book it in advance but since we had gone when it was not the high season for tourists , we had no problem. The room was big, airy, clean. The toilet was good too. The breakfast was sufficient with choice for vegetarians. In the evening it got little noisy as there were 2 busloads of tourists, but it was within tolerance limits! we were there for 1 night only, but it was an enjoyable stay..and there was a market nearby waking distance with a Mcdonald...

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view!
