“Good facilities and location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

We stayed at the Sudima for two nights in a good sized room with balcony (just about overlooking the lake). We were given a free room upgrade which included a room safe but there was no aircon. There were no kitchenette facilities but a reasonable sized fridge and large comfortable beds. The normal hotel facilities were comprehensive and people spoke well about the spa, though we went to the Polynesian Spa which was only 5 minutes walk away. There is a Pak'n'Save very close by.

Room Tip: Some rooms seemed to have aircon so ask for one.

The Sudima hotel has great location with nice lake view. Quiet place, quite upmarket. The room is nice and clean with big bathroom; the balcony is nice with lake view. They offer private spa for free – 30 minutes. It is a Jacuzzi in a private room with open air – is good to go there as the night falls to see the stars. Breakfast was really worth of money. Not the cheapest, but you get great choice of food. We enjoyed the stay in this hotel.

My partner and I arrived on Friday morning at Sudima Hotel Rotorua. Obviously our room would not be ready but we wanted to leave our luggage at the hotel. We checked and the counter person could not contact the staff member concerned with room cleaning and readiness, so we left our luggage and were told that it would be taken to our room for us before we arrived back.

That gave us a few hours to tour around the town and to the museum and to take in the horse racing that happened to be on that day. The hotel is right by the Polynesian Pools & Spa and the Bathhouse Museum, so the situation is great and quiet.

We arrived back at the hotel to pick up our room key and the luggage had indeed been taken to our room earlier.

Even though we had a "disabled room" because of my amputated limb/prosthetic and the bathroom was bigger than the usual with 2 showers (one over bath, one for wheel chair access), there was still plenty of space in the room. There were 2 double beds which were very comfortable and ample pillows. Each bed had one firm pillow and one soft. Sensible choice.

There is tea and coffee making facilities, with real milk I might add, a small size refrigerator and no mini bar, thank goodness. That allowed us to put all our wine and other drinks in the fridge.

The rooms a fairly soundproof and well carpeted and maintained. We slept very well and were refreshed when we woke in the morning.

I rang to the front desk to find out if our booking included breakfast but were told it was not. Okay. I asked how much breakfast wold be and was informed a full cooked breakfast would be $25 each. We had tea on our rooms and then left to hunt down a breakfast restaurant which cost us $25 all up.

Although there was the sulphur smell coming off the lake, it was not unexpected nor unpleasant as some would have you believe. It is the smell of a thermal area no more no less.

We stayed on the Saturday also and decided when we booked out that the Sudima had been more than adequate and we would surely stay there again.

The staff at the desk were friendly and helpful and the cleaning staff efficient and speedy.

Thanks Sudima.

Room Tip: We had one of the Superior rooms that had been refurbished and would do the same again. Also on Frid...

We bought vouchers for Sudima on Treat Me. Included in the $129.00 per night room rate for two guests were free buffet breakfast, free wireless and a free drink voucher per guest. We used to stay in the same hotel years ago when our boys were toddlers and the hotel operated under a different name. So going back after almost 12 years brought back a lot of memories. Upgrading throughout the hotel has taken place and we were treated to nice modern facilities which you would expect of a 4 star hotel. Location is superb at the very perimeter of the lake and walking distance to the city. Breakfast is full of choices and very nice and you have to be careful not to overeat!! There are no lifts but there are only 2-3 floors so not bad at all and exercise is good for you? The swimming pool is heated but it gets very cold as soon as you are out. We will be back.

Room ok and comfortable. Had not realised the hotel was a tourist hub - NB check Tripadvisor next time ! I counted thirteen coaches in the carpark. The food was average but the waiting staff ill trained, reaching across us to serve food and drink or retrieve the empties. One young lady managed to pour wine over my hand after over reaching rather than coming round to my side. Oh well, you live and learn.

The rooms are very nice with balconies. The staff is very helpful. But the smell of sulfur is awful. There is no air-conditioning, so you either have to have a warm room or suffer the smell with the windows open. And there are tons of seagulls - so the noise is loud with the windows open. The food at the restaurant is phenomenal. Easy walk to the shops. No elevator to the various floors in some of the buildings, so if you don't want to heft your luggage, be careful when you make the reservation.

Room was clean and simple, with comfortable sized beds, extra pillows, and a clean toilet. The only inconvenience was that my room was located on the second storey in the block with no elevator, so I had to lug my luggage up a flight of stairs.

Hotel location was nearby shops and supermarkets, so it was pretty convenient.
