“Awesome for years now”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

We have been using Bike Planet for the past 7 years to help ensure our our students improve their skills in Mountain Biking for National Assessments. Besides always getting supplied with quality guides when required, quality bikes, and expert tuition for the students, Edd and Lenore are like family (well, the ones you like!). They've helped us with advice when we wanted to purchase bikes for our school, and the coffee is really good too! Our Outdoor Ed team use these guys for our own Mountain Biking exploits, as well as recommend them to travellers we meet around the country on our adventures. And of course there are trails for everyone, slow and easy, to completely nuts! Happy riding.

“A great place to stop and recharge.”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

Traveling from Aus to Rotorua to mountain bike for a week this place was the best to find. After riding for 5hrs in the morning and coasting down the hill with a broken derailler we pull into Planet Bike not sure if we could continue. Ed looks at the bike and fixes it with minimal cost. Has been called a Guru before. We are waiting for the bike and Lenore brings out the best muffins I have ever tasted. If Sam is in town it is a must for him to take you on a tourer. Will show you the best tracks and give a great workout on the bike. In life it is not very often you meet people that you will remember for the rest of your life. Ed,Lenore and Sam are people that I think I will remember.

“a very pleasant surprise”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

Ive spent a week riding at the redwood forest and initially i tried to do my own catering and exploration but after being invited by friends to ride with Planet Bike crew I was pleasantly surprised to find how much nicer, fun and relaxed it was.
You don't get that false hype Macdonald style catering, quite common at action sports activities nowadays.

Its sooo relaxed and eclectic, a truly good coffee and home made cakes by Lenore and an understated knowledge of what mountain biking really is about.
The wide selection of rental bikes was quite amazing ( they even have Commensal double suspension bikes from Andorra!...iv never seen one before).
There is a rig available for every taste.'
Even the bike mechanic chat was entertaining, Ed knowledge of bike technology and maintenance is truly amazing. He can tell what is hype and what is truly useful in modern bike design straight away...
The place is a family run business and it shows in the warmth of their people.

If you want to really experience the Redwoods, you must visit this place, it's becoming a tourist attraction by its own merit.

“Planet Bike - Bike Repairs”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

Tucked in behind the Waipa Sawmill in the Rotorua Whakarewarewa forest is Planet Bike. A great place to hire a bike with a good selection of rigs. The coffee is very good and if you time it right you might get to sample some of Lenore's home baking. In addition to making great coffee, Ed is the bike repair guru, passionate about all things peddley. They have some comfortable old couches to slouch down in and a vast selection of bike related STUFF hanging on the walls, in the corners, under the table etc... It is a minor detour from the forest making it a good excuse if the weather turns or the legs need a rest. I think they also do guided rides?
