I insisted that our travel agent book us here rather than the Ibis in town in Rotorua. This was primarily based on the reviews and we were absolutely right!

This B&B is a gem as are the hosts Louise and Mark. From the time we arrived and were welcomed with some tea and goodies that Louise baked to the time we left, we felt like we were a part of the family rather than guests.

One reason we like B&Bs rather than hotels is for the personal connection with the family. We certainly feel that we made a great connection here.

We were the only guests for the duration of our stay. Louise upgraded us to a nicer room since none of them were occupied. The property is magnificent with great views of the lake. Louise and Mark have chickens, cows and donkeys on the property as well as gorgeous gardens.

The breakfasts were delicious and there are always some baked goodies to be had with a tea or coffee in the afternoon. We stayed for 2 nights and Doolans certainly ranks as the best place we have ever stayed and we've stayed in places all over the world.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Additional info: If you want to be in town, stay in the Ibis or some other hotel in town. Doolans is about 15 minute drive into Rotorua. They are located close to the Mitai Maori Village and you can get picked up at Doolans if you are going to the hangi dinner at Mitai.

Doolans Retreat is a  peaceful getaway location. This hidden bnb scores huge points for it's grounds and country setting. Beautiful gardens are on premises and there is a trail to a nearby stream. The rooms are small and simple, but clean and very comfortable. Little time is actually spent in the room as the house layout encourages sitting in the open great rooms or walking outside. Louise & Mark are great hosts and cooks- breakfast was exceptional. Louise helped us finalize our itinerary with her insight on the local attractions. We were sorry we were only able to stay for a single night.

What a start to our New Zealand adventure!! Doolans is like a home away from home. A really special place made all the better by the fabulous Louise. Thank you for looking after us and giving us some great tips on what to do and where to go which made our stay so memorable. Would love to return one day for more tasty breakfasts and evenings under the stars.
