“Clean and affordable place to camp.”
Reviewed February 21, 2012

I camped here in my tent for 2 nights during the Rugby World Cup and it ended up being a decent place to stay while exploring Rotorua. The girls at the check-in were really helpful and provided me with a map to the tent camping area. I noticed there were many different lodgings, a few others tent camping, and a lot of people in campervans and motorhomes.

Near to the tenting area were the bathrooms, laundry and kitchen areas. The bathrooms were reasonably clean and also contained 3 or 4 showers. My only complaint would be that the windows were always open and it was still a bit cold outside, when taking a shower it could be very chilly. I didn't use the laundry facilities but they seemed to be pretty standard. The kitchen was clean and had 4 or 5 cooking areas, each with a stove, oven and sink, there was also a microwave and hot water dispenser.

Connected to the kitchen was an eating area which also had a TV, it was nothing special but I did have a good time watching one of the final RWC games with the other guests. I know there were some thermal pools/baths here but I didn't take the time to try them out so I cannot comment on them. Overall the park seemed clean and taken care of and there were a lot of people staying there, the price was reasonable for tent camping and they had all the facilities a camper would need.

We stay regularly at this holiday park and have stay in their cabins, units and also slept in our tent. Carys and the staff are friendly and helpful and we just keep coming back. Awesome pools - the kids love them. Shop is well stocked with ideas of what to see and food etc. Ammenities clean.

Do not even look any further then this holiday park. It is one of the best we stayed in NZ during the RWC. This was one of the few towns we did not stay in a TOP 10 park.

We had 3 children and booked this cute cabin. It was a lot of fun to swim in their hot pools and not have to travel far to do it. The cabin was a little home for us to spread out a bit and have some simple things like eating breakfast easily w/out having to go out etc. We had a great stay.

Room Tip: We booked a cabin that had bunk beds for the kids

The park is central to Rotorua city and to many of the surrounding attractions, whether by car or by taxi. We stayed in a Maui van, so only stayed on the powered site. Given we were in a 7.2m van, we were put in an incredibly difficult bay and had to drive over their garden. When we pointed this out to them, we were told that other people had no problem...

The baths there are pleasant and free for guests, but we preferred to pay in town for a more pampered experience. Facilities are clean but by no means superior to any other park. It was a shame the cafe was closed for winter.

The staff are inconsistent. The phone is answered only one out of two times we rang, which was frustrating, but they were pleasant enough. I do feel they could look more interested in their guests and be more welcoming. There was one staff exception, who was chatty (as many guests in caravan parks are) and I give her 10/10. She'll know who she is...I told her about the deal at the volcanic stone restaurant!

The grassy area is easy to park in, but the trucks and boiler kept us awake. The park is right near a major highway. But not a problem further back in the park, so long as you can park your van!

Overall, a nice park but we did stay in better in NZ. I can't comment on the vans or cabins, although they did look clean and nice from outside.

Room Tip: When you book, tell them the length of the van. Grass location is best if big.

We had just one night in a cabin with all bedding and facilities, it was very comfortable and clean. Retro in a nice way, with 70s style fake wood panelled walls and kitchenette. As other posters have said, the facilities generally are old but clean and in good condition. The thermal pools were a nice bonus, we had a large one to ourselves for about half an hour. The grounds were also nice with lawn and lots of mature trees, not kerbed and guttered into mini-suburbia like so many holiday parks these days. It felt very spacious, being July there weren't a lot of caravans. We thought it was good value, and a good alternative to the motel-city atmosphere of much of Rotorua's accommodation. Only gripe was that the small fan heater in the living area was noisy and not very effective.

Room Tip: BYO bedding to get a cheaper cabin

For a caravan park that we rocked up to with no booking, we can't complain. Friendly staff, nice thermal pools, and conveniently located near Whakarewarewa Redwood Forest (for those interested in mountain biking).
