“Many different options for a large extended family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

We stayed two nights....and had a wonderful time.
Five Adults and two Children.
Three of the Adults are older and decided not to camp. They rented the two bedroom apartment. It was very clean and ideal for a trip to Rotorua - where you spend most of your time visiting different attractions.
Then Two Adults and Two Kids (5&3) - we camped next to the stream. Because of the children we faced away from the stream and our kids never went to the stream alone. Although water safety was a major concern for us. The owner of the site did say they had sites away from the stream. If this is a concern for you - then call the owners.
The service was excellent - very helpful and friendly. Great to get a list of free things to do in Rotorua - because it can get very expensive.
The showers and kitchen areas are very very clean. The showers are supplied by solar hot water - so unless you are the first...you can find your water is cold in the morning and then boiling at night!!
The kitchen is full of all the things you would need for cooking - just bring food :)

The free kayaks were also lots of fun for our kids.

Overall very good value for money - leaving you more money to see some of the sights of Rotorua.

We had a really good time staying at this property. We took a guide service out on the lake and caught about 15 trout and then fished some in the creek beside the property and caught a few there as well. They have free kayaks and the staff are extremely helpful when it comes to fishing and local event in the area to check out. We will definately be returning to Rotorua and this property.

We stayed two nights in a cabin with kitchen. It was very clean as the share bathroom and all the camping. The laundry is cheap. We can use kayak for free.
The owner is very nice and helpful. He was trying to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
Keep going !

We stayed here during the new year period for 3 nights. There were 5 Adults and 1 child. we stayed in one of the motel units. Everything was wonderful - the hosts are fantastic, lovely and friendly people. We found most of the other campers to be very friendly and welcoming too. The park is well maintained and clean. The only thing that appeared old was the swingset and trampoline but it didnt seem to bother the kids or thier parents.

There is a stream that runs directly through the park and it was wonderful for cooling off in the hot summer sun. They have free kayaks and lifejackets that can be used on the stream and a little dhingy aswell. the depth of the stream right out side the park is about 1M and has a gentle current so its pretty safe for swimming... there are however some surprisingly deep parts further upstream or down stream.

This place is a haven for fishermen as this stream has plenty of trout roaming about. Lake rotorua is a 5 minute walk down stream and so is the mouth of the stream where there is some brilliant fishing. I saw plenty of people catching decent size fish including a 10pound Brown Trout!

3 Of us decided to take some fishing lessons with the onsite Trout man Harvey Clark, Harvey was great! he was patient, encouraging and a great teacher. We caught fish every day we were there and even caught fish on the very first lesson with Harvey!!! - His prices are very reasonable and he is very passionate about fishing!

The motel unit was clean and had enough beds and linen for all of us. We felt right at home as soon as we got there and quickly settled in. There were BBQs set up around the park and a well stocked kitchen so we cooked up a storm every night. They also had a fish cleaning area with a fish smoker with free use of the woodchips , salt and sugar. We used it and our smoked trout tasted amazing - the freshest and best tasting fish ive had in ages! All the little details had been thought of at this park . I would highly recommend this park to famalies and people who love to fish.

We certainly will be going back!

Forget the "Top 10s", forget the faintly seedy roadside motel set up, when you find a little gem like this you realise its worth doing that bit of extra research to find a place that many before you have discovered but feels like your discovery and whose hosts treat you like a old friend passing by...

.... A little background to our stay in NZ, we wanted to travel budget but not “backpack budget”, ie to have our own rooms with en suite, not because we're anti-social just at an age where we still want a bit of adventure but a bit of comfort too! And here we found it!

My Auntie in Northern England actually lives in a house as big as our self contained accommodation, well equipped kitchen, comfy beds with spare everything, large lounge with several sofas which it looked like could be used as extra beds, enormous shower, a back door leading to a BBQ area (with gas tank in operation) and several picnic tables. On top of this there is internet access and wireless for a small fee, table tennis, pool, 2 bloody pianos can you believe, free use of kayaks ("Top 10" anything can be hired for an exorbitant fee, take note!), lovely walks along to the lake and a gentle stream at the bottom of the well landscaped surrounds. The tent pitches looked good, the cabins were basic and cheap and there where hook ups for motor homes too.

Our host Michael was charming and friendly and said that he valued the atmosphere himself so limits the number of folk on the site even at the height of season to give a better experience to fewer people - top ethos, top bloke...

Great amenities and friendly owner. We stayed for three nights in a double kitchen cabin which contained everything we required for a comfortable stay.
Only 5min drive from central Rotorua and even closer to the luge and agrodome. Right next to a trout fishing stream and a few minutes walk to the lake.
Highly recommend.

We arrived here quite late in the evening after driving direct from Auckland airport in our campervan. The owner had stayed up to welcome us and even had an icypole for our grateful seven year old!

The park is an older park, but the amenities are absolutely spotless and well maintained. The showers are untimed (unlike many other more expensive parks we stayed at) and lovely and clean. The park is slightly out of town but it is only a few minutes drive into Rotorua and all the attractions.

The owner is extremely helpful. Staying here was a great, friendly welcome to New Zealand for us and I would not hesitate in recommending Waiteti to anyone.
