Quite good conditions for a hostel. Shared bathrooms but plenty of them so no need to wait. Good atmosphere. Wifi, possible to park a car.

The Rotorua Central Backpackers is arranged more like a hotel than a hostel. The room we stayed in was a six person room, no bunks. There were small shelving units and two hooks for towels next to each bed. There is central heating throughout the building and the bedrooms, the bathrooms, the kitchen and the t.v room are all in the same building, so you don't have to walk outside to shower or use the toilets, which makes it a perfect place to stay in the winter.
There is also a spa outback of the hostel. It was a nice place to relax, though not an amazing spa.
The kitchen was clean and well-kept as were the rooms. The manager was very friendly. She helped us plan out our activities for the day and gave us coupons to the Wai-o-tapu thermal park.
It is a great location: walking distance to a downtown area, the Rotorua Museum, Lake Rotorua and the Polynesian Spa.
Overall, I would recommend staying here.

This hostel is in a good location as it's close to everything within Rotorua town centre. Overall the hostel is clean - the bathrooms and kitchen are all well maintained. The bedrooms are quite dated and could do with a facelift as could the reading room. Some of the staff were great and others were just ok. One staff member spent 30 minutes in the reading room talking very loudly on her mobile phone to a friend which was quite annoying.

nice hostel, lovely rooms and comfy beds. we did have a room above the kitchen, which was fine until some selfish people stayed up drinking and we had to tell them to shut up at 1.30am! quiet time is 10pm i think, and most people adhere to it.

excellent location, can walk to town and the park and the polynesian spa, which is a must do. We went to 6 hot pools while we were away, this was the best by far.

I had a great time here and wished I could have stayed longer than one night! Super clean, nice kitchen and communal areas, friendly owner. It was nice to stay in an old building with solid walls and doors, because of which I found it to be not so noisy as many other hostels, though I can see someone else has said they found it noisy, so maybe it depends which part of the building you are in.
