“Always a great place to stay”
Reviewed April 7, 2012

Having stayed here for at least twice a year for at least 8 years, we have found it to be an ideal location for all there is to do and see around the region. Lovely rural setting and wonderful hosts. Nice clean and roomy units. Great motel for children with play area and various animals to see. Play area for the grown ups too.

Thanks Beefy24 for such a delightful review, sorry it has taken so long to get around to it. It is true that the units are clean, and roomy and the location best in town I say. We do try hard to give our guests both a comfortable, homely stay while staying with us, anything to make your stay extra special. Hope your journey home was great and that you are not missing us to much. Hope to see you back next year. Karen & Lindsay.

Our trip to Rotorua was made better because of help from the owner, plus the room was such a treat. After a very long day of travel we were welcomed with warm muffins and tea, what's not to love?

Lovely place especially for children. Lots for the kids to do in their beautiful park. Lovely clean apartments. Will definitely stay there again if we had to go back to Rotorua.

This is a wonderful place to stay! It was the first motel we passed as we were heading into Rotorua for our holiday, and turned around to go back after checking out a few others in the city. It was a home away from home! Karen, one of the hosts, was amazing and willing to help us in anyway we asked - like offering us the use of her umbrella in the torrential rain! She provided us with knowledge about the sights and tourist spots that Rotorua has to offer, helpful in the sense that there is so much to see and do, quite overwhelming to say the least! It had a relaxed environment and had a country feel with the paddocks with horses and sheep outside the cabin. The cabin itself was well equipped with the necessary items needed to stay there quite comfortably for a while. Thank you so much for a great time and keep up the excellent work - will definitely return for our next Rotorua holiday!

Hi Lindsay, thanks for reviewing us. We really appreciate your postive comments at our lodge. The relaxed environment, the knowledge, home away from home, well equipped units. etc. Great to hear that you both had a great time, even though the weather wasn't that accommodating.

Your kind compliments and comments are truly appreciated, and look forward to seeing you both back next time. In the meantime, have a great year and look forward to your arrival next time. Regards Karen & Lindsay Ash

Friends looked surprised when I said we were going for a relaxing weekend away with our son - "wouldn't it be more relaxing if you leave him with someone?". But Rotorua Hideaway Lodge made this possible, as our son was able to go and play on the playground and pat the animals while we watched him from our unit balcony! Nice and quiet, it has a country-type atmosphere, while being only minutes away from touristy attractions, takeaways, and Rotorua township.

We have 3 kids (6,5 and 1) and this place was GREAT in that we could relax while they gambolled about the grounds, playing mini golf, riding their bikes, using the playground and feeding the horses in the next door paddock.

Also very handy to the Gondola, Agrodome and Springs (we went to all of them).

Room Tip: We had a unit with a separate bedroom - so we could put the baby to sleep during the day.

Just outside rotorua city, the lodge is excellent place to relax away from the sulphur smell that is common in the city. The lodge is outside city so a car is necessary.

Seperate bedroom and a hall with TV was a steal for the price we paid. Kitchen is adequately furnished( microwave, gas burner, fridge etc). We did however have to clean some of the utensils as it had not been washed properly.

The owner, Karen, is a nice person and very helpful (some people may take offense to her frankness - but we had no problems with her). She helped us out with booking of tours.

Breakfast is good. Though it lacks in variety, at NZD 6.5 per person, it was adequate for the price we paid.Families with young children will love the lodge for it offers place to play and has collection of animals including alpaca and mini horses.

Only problem we faced was with the bed - problem was not with the mattress but the bed. It seemed too fragile and we were worried that it might break.

We had planned for only 2 nights but ended up staying 3 nights.

Dear guest, thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are sorry to hear that our house keeper didn't do her job as well as she should have. This has been noted and passed on to her, so thank you for that.

In regards to our bed we looked into it afterwards only to find that two of the bed legs had come lose, so therefore, this has now been taken care off and the bed is as good as new. Only wish that you had said something to us after your first night, so that we could have fixed the problem straight away and left you with a better nights sleep for the next two nights.

In regards to your breakfast menu $6.50 is quiet a adequate price in New Zealand to pay per peson for a continetal breakast. This consist of fruit, juice, 4 cereals (one of which is porridge), tin fruit, white or brown bread and a selection of jams and spreads, including tea, coffee and milo, and you can eat as much as you like as well. Most accommodation providers charge between $8.50 to $12.00 for this.

Yes honestly is my best policy I always say, nice to know that I was able to help you out with all of all your tours etc and that you had a relaxing time while staying with us. Look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Regards Karen
