This was our 3rd trip to Rotorua, but the first one where we have taken the kids with us. We normally stay in the motels in the heart of the city centre along Fenton street. But this time around we were on a strict budget.
After much googling I found Rotorua Hideaway Lodge and it looked perfect.
My 10 year old son absolutely loved the animals and the farm-like environment. He loved Tess the Dalmatian - and loved it when she followed him around. The playground and park-like setting kept us occupied when we were not out and about.
Our stay was over New Years when the big weather front hit the country - so we did spend a lot of time in our room and getting out in between big downpours, talking and petting the animals kept us happy and sane. Even the 13 year old girl loved the animals.
The unit was clean and self contained. We were able to cook our own meals and feel like we in a home away from home. We were provided with a fold out bed for our son.
The traffic noise was not bad at all, compared with the traffic noises and sulphurous smells if you were to stay in the main city centre - which are worse in my opinion.More
