“Lovely garden set midst steaming pools”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

We came to see this park because it was free and frankly most of the activities in the area felt like tourist traps with ridiculous price tags for what are essentially self-guided walks around natural formations that should really be public. Kuirau is a wonderful, well-kept garden/park with thermal vents, pools of steaming water and bubbling mud. There are two foot baths where you can sit and dip your feet in, one under a shelter and one in the open. Both contain water taken from the hot pool right beside them! During our time there we were impressed with all the interesting species of trees (some I'd never seen before) and their lovely fall foilage. Also saw a couple of water foul around the park. The caretakers were super friendly and seemed to really take pride in the park- definitely go if you want to see the thermal formations without paying a fortune!

“Lovely first impression”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

We just love this park and visit every time we are in Rotorua. The gardens, and pools are a wonderful experience. Everyone we have taken has been equally impressed. It is a wonderful way to show some of the thermal activity.
The market in the car park this year was an added bonus.

“Still Free”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

After all these years since we lived there, this is still the place to take people to see boiling mud and steam - all for free. There are many place around Rotorua where one can spend a fortune to see the same things. This is a lovely park.

“Thermal activity for free”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

Look at the steaming mud pools, quite smelly but really cool to see nature up close. Great to walk around and safe for kids as there are fences around the mud / hot pools.
