We came to see this park because it was free and frankly most of the activities in the area felt like tourist traps with ridiculous price tags for what are essentially self-guided walks around natural formations that should really be public. Kuirau is a wonderful, well-kept garden/park with thermal vents, pools of steaming water and bubbling mud. There are two foot baths where you can sit and dip your feet in, one under a shelter and one in the open. Both contain water taken from the hot pool right beside them! During our time there we were impressed with all the interesting species of trees (some I'd never seen before) and their lovely fall foilage. Also saw a couple of water foul around the park. The caretakers were super friendly and seemed to really take pride in the park- definitely go if you want to see the thermal formations without paying a fortune!
