We visited Fat Dog with our two children for breakfast. The decor is casual blackboard cafe style - shabby chic. The cafe is counter service and there is an extensive menu.
We ordered scrambled eggs for Him Eggs Benedict for Her and French toast for the kids. The coffee was pleasant and hot and the meals arrived fairly quickly. The portions were very large with the bread in big wedges rather than slices. The french toast was swimming in maple syrup and likewise there was a little too much hollandaise drizzled over the eggs benedict. The bread tasted pretty ordinary. The scrambled eggs were a tad on the firm side and the wholegrain looked suspiciously like ordinary molenberg bread.
Be great to see this improved given this is clearly a local institution in Rotorua for locals and tourists. We suggest the maple syrup is provided separately on the side, proper 5 grain bread offered and the white replaced with a quality sour dough and the portions a little more modest.
