“Fantastic experience! Definitely a 'must stay' in Rotorua.”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

Our stay at B&B@Redwoods at Rotorua was one of our more memorable stays during our trip to New Zealand. The rooms were tastefully furnished and the bed was extremely comfortable. Vivien is an excellent host and always had good advice on places to visit in Rotorua. Her breakfast of eggs, toast and bacon always hit the spot before a day of sightseeing. The B&B is also conveniently located a few minutes away from the places of interest while being situated away from the smell of sulphur in the area. All in all an excellent place to stay and we will definitely stay there again when we are in Rotorua!

My friends and I lodged at Vivien's B&B just last month in winter and I must say that despite the wet weather, Vivien made our trip an unforgettable one! Coming from the Gold Coast, we were impressed by Viv's spacious rooms, heated beds, thick blankets and most importantly her cordial hospitality. It was really chilly as it rained cats and dogs but Viv's beds were so cosy we ended up staying in a couple of nights! We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast that Viv did - those pancakes and poached eggs were a winner! Viv was a great host as she was always willing to recommend places for sightseeing and was quick to settle us in. The Redwoods is also a stone's throw away from her B&B and everywhere else is really about a 5-10 minute drive so this is the perfect accommodation. I particularly enjoyed her garden as well - it really is a pretty little place! I'd highly recommend Viv's B&B to everyone - it's a hidden gem and I'd definitely come back to stay when I'm in town.

Excellent, clean, spacious B&B. Our gracious host always recommended the best ideas! Breakfast was hot or cold, whichever you preferred. Times were flexible. Accomodations were outstanding. The redwoods are only a block away. There is much more to see further down the road (three lakes). The patio and yard were great with magnificent views. The Tui bird songs woke us in the morning (BEAUTIFUL!!!) Could not have asked for better!

My husband, sister-in-law, and cousin stayed for only two short nights at the Redwoods. We could definitely have stayed there longer as the accommodations and Vivien's hospitality were outstanding. The location was great for getting to Te Puia, the skyrail, walking trails, lakes, and the mud pools. We could also have spent more time at the Redwoods, just hanging out as the rooms were spacious, private, and well-equipped. We enjoyed a homemade cake upon arrival and delicious hot breakfasts. There was a lovely outdoor area and a separate sitting/dining room. It truly surpassed our expectations. Vivien provided us with insightful information that was very helpful, not only for Rotorua, but also in Napier. We actually ate dinner at the Mission in Napier upon Vivien's recommendation and were not disappointed. It was a wonderful dining experience. We hope to return again to the Redwoods one day, and we will be sure to stay at the Redwoods.

My husband and I stayed here last month during our trip and we have nothing but excellent words to say about our stay and of Vivien's hospitality. The whole concept of a bed and breakfast was a bit foreign to us, but this experience really enriched our stay in Rotorua and in New Zealand.

For one, the breakfast every morning was just perfect and oh so tasty and hearty. Just what we needed for a long day of sightseeing and exploring. Vivien prepared us a stellar breakfast every morning before our start to the day at our time requested. The eggs, toast, cereal, bacon and grilled mushrooms were all excellent. We chose this breakfast option. Also in the mornings and in the evenings, Vivien was such a wonderful help by pretty much departing all of her advice and wisdom regarding sights to see and what to do with our time. Having never been to New Zealand or to Rotorua before, it was wonderful having someone with such knowledge while there.

Second, we stayed in the basic suite (I can't remember the name). But it was a nice and simple room with a patio and it looked quite beautiful when the light shined though. The bed was our most comfortable stay during our entire trip. The linens on the bed were so soft and I could tell they were very high quality and felt so cozy. We were a bit concerned about being cold at night too (since NZ homes are notorious for poor insulation). Our room was equipped with a heater, a towel warmer, as well as a heater under the sheets as well if you so desire to turn it on. We never got cold once and slept exceptionally well.

Her house is also close to the Redwoods forest, about a couple minutes drive. Overall a wonderful stay.

Vivien is a fantastic host, the location of the property, adjacent to an old forest, is ideal and far enough away from the lakes to avoid the smell of sulphur !
Rotorua is an amazing place, allowing the opportunity to sample Maori culture, some amazing geology and thermal spring baths all in one place.

Vivien's cooking and welcoming personality make this B&B un-missable.
Ask her about the Irish Rugby team !
