“Great stay. Wonderful host”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2011

We spent two nights at B&B @ The Redwoods. The property is cosy and well maintained with a charming little garden at the back. Our room was nice and Vivienne had already had an extra mattress or our 6 y.o. son prepared when we arrived. In addition to a great breakfast in a comfortable dining/lounge area for guests, Vivienne provided several ideas and suggestions for what we could do around Rotorua. The property while being about 5km from Rotorua town is right next to the magnificent redwood park. A wonderful stay and the hospitality was special.

This was my son first experience with B&B. I found this place purely by luck. When I arrived at the visitor center in Rotorua. This B&B is highly recommended by the visitor staffs. It turned out to be a perfect place to stay, especially with teenage boy. We were treated like part of the family. We got to know the host family and other guests staying at the B&B. My son and I had a wonderful experience and you will not be disappointed.

The hosts: First off, Vivien is truly the kindest, most knowledgeable hostess we have ever stayed with. She knew when and where to go, had copies of every menu of every restaurant in Rotorua, microwaved take-out lunch for me in the middle of the day (which she clearly didn't have to do), let me choose exactly what I wanted for breakfast (delicious fruit pancakes), picked us up AND dropped us off at the airport, provided lovely conversation over a glass of wine...the list just goes on and on. And her husband and children were also equally delightful. This world needs more Viviens!

The room: The rooms are spacious and clean with cute private patios. The bathroom is brand new and also immaculate. The only downside is the TV is tiny, but she had mentioned they do plan to upgrade to larger TVs soon.

The location: You are literally right next to the Redwoods which has several different trails (and the fauna is just gorgeous on the two or three we did). We walked right up the street and were at the visitor center. The best part of the location is YOU ARE AWAY FROM THE SMELL OF ROTORUA. And let me tell you, it stinks down there! We don't mind walking so the walk to town wasn't bad at all (15 minutes, apx 2.5 km), but we did take a cab back at night because it was just too cold (apx $15nzd). I'm glad we stayed away from the smell. Another plus- the cafe/bakery down the block from the B&B had delicious chicken and avocado sandwiches for $5nzd.

Thank you so much for the enjoyable stay!

My husband and I found this place in a bed and breakfast book that we had picked up along the way. We were sold on the laundry icon in the book but we got so much more. We did not have a phone to call for vacancy so we pulled up to the house and knocked on the door. Vivian answered the door and we asked if she had a room for us. She seemed a little surprised that we had just showed up but was so pleasant. She said that she had a room but it was not ready yet. She brought us into her home and showed us around. We had only planned on staying one night but she had us sold on two. She immediately started planning our next two days, setting everything up for us. Vivian was the most amazing host on our trip. She did our laundry and left it nicely folded on our bed. I needed to use the computer and she left us with her notebook without any charge. Breakfast was perfect, we were stuffed with the most amazing pancakes, eggs, bacon, toast, fruit, etc. Vivian spent time talking to us and other guests with a smile on her face. We had a lot of amazing conversation. Both her and her husband have traveled and lived in other countries. They are both so well rounded and truly enjoyable to be around. This place is located near so much. You could easily spend a week here. We enjoyed the Maori cultural dinner/dance, Rainbow Springs, a day at the Polynesian Spa, thermal springs, bungee jumping and the Redwoods forest. You can tell that Vivian really enjoys opening her home to guests. She is so gracious and we would be honored to be invited into her home again. Thanks again for all of your hard work to make our honeymoon beautiful.

Vivien is a gracious host who goes out of her way to ensure her guests' comfort. I was visiting Rotorua as an overseas traveller and was not sure where to stay. Her response to my email enquiry was prompt, friendly and professional, inspiring me to stay at B&B @ The Redwoods. I was not disappointed. The rooms are elegantly furnished and very clean, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the breakfasts were plentiful, varied and very tasty and beautifully presented. Overall, the b&b is an elegant, tastefully decorated establishment where the guests are pampered by a friendly, courteous host who goes out of her way to assist them in making the most of their stay in Rotorua.

The Redwoods B&B was the best place we stayed at in New Zealand. Vivian made our stay very relaxing and stress free. She and her husband Peter helped with all of our bookings and provided us with additional things to do in the area. Vivian is the heart of the place. She invited us for a glass of wine over looking her garden. The breakfasts were fresh and on time. She customized where possible.
The B&B itself was about 5 minutes from town in a forest of redwoods. I would recorded this place to everyone staying in the area.

My husband, myself and our 16 month old daughter stayed here as part of our holiday to New Zealand in March 2011. I had read so many wonderful reviews and we were not disappointed. The house is beautiful and Vivien is such a wonderful host and lovely person. We were made to feel so welcome and like we were really at home there. Vivien kindly gave us some toys for our daughter to play with during our stay and it definitely kept her occupied. Vivien also recommended many places for us to visit as a family and for us to eat. The house is charming and is so peaceful and quiet. The rooms are also extremely spacious. The breakfast each morning was delicious and we barely had lunch most days from being so full from the delicious food offered in the morning. Rotorua was the first place we stayed in New Zealand we wondered if the rest of our accommodation would be able to live up to these standards.
