Lovely spot to visit and the 5km walk back to Waitangi was really pretty following the river and crossing a mangrove swamp. Lots of bird life!

From the pretty Haruru Falls walk 5 kms along an easy track through native forest and over wetlands to Waitangi museum grounds. Shady path with views of estuary and shags nesting in nearby trees. Walk all or part according to stamina but suitable for all fitness levels. A lovely experience

From the carpark only a few metres to the falls. They are quite pretty and one of those things you better visit or you don’t know if you are missing something. I would imagine the walk to the falls from the Treaty House end would be quite beautiful along the river. Takes about 1.5 hrs one way. If you are driving remember gates clause at 5pm.

This is a great bush walk/trek that has a great view at the end. At night the falls glow with algae which is impressive.

We did the bush walk this time starting across the road from the Waitangi Treaty Grounds and finishing at the Haruru Falls. We then walked beside the roadway to get back into Paihia. The round trip was about 10km. The falls were just as lovely as last time we were there earier this year in January. If you are staying in the Bay of Islands area, its definetly worth a visit. Allow a couple of hours to do the bush walk or just 20-30 minutes if you drive there.

There are plenty of more exciting falls to see in NZ, but these are pretty and it is such a short walk from the car park to the view.
There is also an optional walk through the Mangroves.

The Haruru falls is impressive and has a good lookout for people to rest and grab a bite. The area is a Kiwi Zone so no dogs are allowed there. However we were not lucky enough to spot any kiwi wandering :( . The kids were excited to see different colours of roosters in the area though.

In Maori, Haruru translates to 'big noise' and it gets the name because the falls can get noisy and fierce during the heavy rains.

Close to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds it is worth a detour to visit. Very close to the main road and a nice easy walk. When the sun shines it can produce a lovely rainbow!

As we were staying at a park at the bottom of the falls we had a great view. We also walked to the top of the falls through the car park. It was good to sit beside the river in the sun and watch fish jumping out the water. Definitely recommended.

Stunning and well worth it :) These falls are just off the main road and close to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.
