“Another Waterfall”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

Not a lot of water flowing when we visited. We had a car & drove the loop (Pahia, Haruru Falls, Waitangi, Paihia) - it was about ten minutes between Haruru Falls & Waitangi (great views). Haruru Falls isn't a waterfall I'd rave about ..... it's more along the lines of 'just another waterfall' - nice to see & worth taking a look if you're in the area.

“Worth seeing”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

Scenic falls conveniently located not far from Paihia. Excellent walk from Waitangi through mangroves and native bush (takes up to 2 hours). Note that diving in and swimming here are not advised owing to the rapid flow of water. I believe kayaks can be rented though.

“Haruru Falls”

In low water times this is a non event, worth a few minutes walk when there is plenty of water flow. If the rivers are low give it a miss!

“A pleasant walk along an interesting river”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

The Haruru Falls are unspectacular but pleasant, being close to a town, fairly low and wide. A very interesting path of about 5km leads from there along the banks of the Waitangi River to the Bay of Islands, generally lightly undulating through some dense bush. The other end emerges near the Treaty Grounds, next to a golf course.

“Worth the walk”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

We met another person who also wanted to do the walk from Waitangi Golf Course to Haruru Falls, which is about 1.5 hours one way - due to time constraint we did a car shuttle and only walked one way. The walk takes you through native bush alongside the river and on boardwalk through the mangrove swamp, with lots of fantails to keep us company :-). Track is mostly down hill if you go from Haruru Falls to Waitangi. Average fitness needed. The Falls weren't as spectacular as last time we were up here - due to a very dry summer and very little rainfall to feed the river, but still worth the walk. :-)
