We were able to do this walk from the door of the Copthorne Resort and it was well worth it to get a flavour of the "real" New Zealand. The easy track first starts by the golf course and then meanders through the rainforest to the Haruru falls. On the way you will encounter some interesting bird life and flora and fauna, and cross the river to the mangrove swamps, which is really exciting stuff! The easy boardwalk means that all members of the family can hear the mud popping and see the cormorants. The falls, when you reach them, are spectacular and you can sit on the slabs of rock to rest your feet and take some photos. It's quite a long walk although a very easy one.

We have a 7 and 9 year old but the walk is about six kms from the Treaty Grounds to the Falls (a big return trip). I would recommend going for a shortened walk on the track, it is worth it (we did a three km up and back) and then drive round to the Falls to see them.

Haruru falls track walk can be started by the Waitangi Treaty grounds via the golf course or at the other end by the falls. It is a 1 1/2 hr bush walk one way. Good walking shoes are needed. Part of the walk is over a board walk though the Mangrove swamp. There are no toilets at the falls end so go before you leave. Take a small back pack if you want a drink.
