“Lovely atmoshphere”
Reviewed January 4, 2011

Beautiful location and the indoor aqaurium was awesome. We dined there with our 2 children. The food was lovely to eat, but typical of many a la carte styles - not much of it. I chose the Lamb Rib(S) as a starter - with the idea of sharing with the children - well, there was only 1 single rib. My husband chose the salt & pepper calamari, and received 5 tiny pieces on a plate. For main, we chose the 1kg prawns to share - this was a fantastic choice and they were beautifully cooked, with dipping sauces on the side. For dessert, I really would have loved one of the kids ones (chocolate cake/pudding) which was huge and beautiful, and half the price of our less appealing adult choices. It really was a beautiful place, with good food, but not quite on target for family dining.

“Loved the Crayfish in the aquarium”
Reviewed December 19, 2010

This res taurant was a disappointment. My wife was a vegetarian and was given a mediocre meal. My oysters were good and the fish and chips I ordered were OK. We were given a table beside a screaming baby who happily the parents were considerable and took it outside when it began to cry. The strange thing was there were tables free where we could have sat but were not offered. The best thing in the restaurant was the cool aquarium with the huge crayfish walking along the bottom and bullying the other smaller crayfish. If you do go get a window seat and you will have a nice view of the harbour and wharf.

“To high quoted”
Reviewed December 4, 2010

Steamed Mussels were cold, taste was lousy
Evening addition swordfish with sauce hollandaise, not so a complex dish, but once again the cook failed, the dish was cold, and really flavourless.
The wine and the cheese trio were good.

“watch dinner while eating it!”
Reviewed September 29, 2010

Had dinner here on our first night in the bay of islands and we were impressed! Don’t worry about a window seat - especially at night - get an aquarium view table. Service was pretty good but perhaps a bit of the level we found in Auckland. However it was excellent for a regional area in the off season. The duty manager/wine expert (sorry forgot your name) was excellent. The food was also very good and the ambiance was spot on. If you’re after an excellent night out in Paihia you won’t go wrong here. We had a drink on the outside when we first arrived in town and that was very pleasant also.
