Couldn't fault it. Great beds & pillows. Excellent shower. More than adequate kitchenette. Spotless. Genuinely friendly & helpful hosts & staff. Ideal location for the 2010 Jazz & Blues Festival. Thanks.

Stayed for 3 nights in February as part of a driving tour around North Island. The accomodation was exactly as other reviewers have described, comfortable and clean and at a very reasonable price. There is also sufficient parking at the motel. The location of the Swiss Chalet is superb. Just a one minute walk to the beach, and a 10 minute stroll to the pier (where the ferry and the tourist boats leave from). Turn left at the end of the road and you're on your way to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds (Well worth a visit). Make sure you stock up with wine or beers for your evening on your small balcony as Paihia, like everywhere else in NZ, seems to have gone to sleep by 21.00

This review is terribly overdue but we had to still post this as Swiss Chalet really is a real find. The value for money is fantastic and Phil and Maureen are wonderful hosts. Elle the dog is beautiful as is everything about the area of Paihia. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable and you feel as if you are in your own little apartment. The Lodge is in the perfect location one minute walk from the seafront. The speed boat rides are incredible fun and Maureen was always willing to help out with bookings. There are some great seafood restaurants on the front and even though we visited during NZ’s winter Paihia and Swiss Chalet were still lively and fun. We would recommend Swiss Chalet to anyone visiting the Bay of Islands, it really is the perfect base and we can’t wait to go back.

After reading “ Make yourself at home” fantastic and well-meant welcome,” I thought to myself, “Spot on!” What else is there to say? He said it all and said it beautifully. As Mr. Grimbly wrote, “.. an outstanding level of accommodation, service, and genuine hosting, deserves recognition, and many return visits.”

I had the privilege of staying with Maureen and Phil at their beautiful hotel for a month in March 2010. After flying half way around the world I was grateful to see Maureen outside the hotel to welcome me. Phil was there to help me with my bags and they both got me settled into my beautiful accommodation that had everything I needed and more. That was my first meeting with them and it only got better.

There are no words to express how wonderful both Maureen and Phil are as hosts. They are genuinely happy to welcome each guest and their main concern is that each guest is happy. They check often to make sure you are happy and have everything you need.

Both Maureen and Phil are very proud of their town and the surrounding area. Not only can they tell you all the “must see” places to go but Phil can tell you to the min. how long it will take you to get there. They were always at hand, for advice, to arrange trips, or any thing to help make your stay enjoyable. There was nothing they wouldn’t do to help me and their other guests. One day I saw Maureen help people that were forced to leave another hotel get a room for the night because she was unable to accommodate them.

Phil was always there, at the end of each day, asking about my day. He was happy to listen to my stories and we had many laughs about my adventures.
I felt cared for and looked after. They became like family! The Swiss Chalet is a place where you feel the comfort of a warm loving home, away from home. But, if you are a guest that wants your privacy, Maureen and Phil also quickly recognize that and will leave you on your own to enjoy your own company.

Each day for a month I came back from an amazing day of travelling the country side to an immaculate room. I cannot say enough about the hardworking and kind staff members that work at the hotel. From the hotel you can walk to the wharf, town, shopping, pubs, restaurants, and the beaches in a matter of minutes. There are amazing hikes all around the town that you can get to easily from the hotel. Location is everything and the Swiss Chalet is perfectly located. If you are driving you have easy access to the main road in all directions. Phailia is the gateway to the North and the Swiss Chalet is the place to stay if you want to explore the area.

If you are looking for an ideal location, well kept accommodation, excellent service, and amazing hosts then you must stay at the Swiss Chalet. This is a place to come back to time and again. It’s charm and people make for an extremely comfortable stay. Highly, highly recommended!

Maureen & Phil were excellent hosts, warm & friendly, nothing was too much trouble to them. We had the wheelchair access room with a patio, both had a great view of the water. Our room had loads of space and very easy access to the shower.

The entire interior was beautifully appointed. relaxing and we felt very much at home there. Thanks Maureen for your travel tips and fun with the web cam. We hope to see you again sometime.

Stayed over for a couple of nights last month - everything is walkable from here and the kids loved the surprise of the big jacuzzi. Great base for the Bay of Islands - thanks again!
