“A bit rough.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2010

Jason and Stacey were very pleasant. The kitchen and bathroom were a bit rough. Were there during peak season and in town was extremely busy especially when the cruise ships were in!!! We had a problem with our room and STacey handled the problem very professionally and fixed the problem straight away. The pool and spa were very pleasant. Did not use games rooms etc. (we were a bit old for it but if you had children it was excellent). A bit disappointed with the Bay of Islands as we live on the beaches in Sydney and it was just like Pittwater but highly commercialised and overpriced for everything in town.

The deluxe apartments are great, loads of space, private balcony, 2 separate bedrooms, (even if you only need one it’s worth it), very well equipped. Free internet in the games room or pay extra for Wi Fi in the room.

Nice landscaped grounds and good sized pool and a Hot Tub.

Location is a bit out of town and a steep uphill return from either direction.

Swimming pool was not too bad, had fun using the communal BBQ, location not too bad, but can hear traffic noises from traffic on the road outside.
Swimming pool was good, albeit a little cold for the time of year. The communal spa has a stunning view.
The unexpected excitement comes from the fact that the room we stayed in we found to be somewhat haunted. Our young sons' night pants (an insurance against accidental bedwetting) mysteriously disappeared before bedtime only to reappear in the morning in an obvious place and with the bed somewhat wet. Also noises sounding like a mischievous child outside the rooms after lights out, and our curtain pushed with a clear shade of the palm of a child, who must have got his hand through the gap of the partially open window (we thought). On inspection of the window behind the curtain the following morning, we discovered it was fixed glass, no way could it be opened, in fact the bedroom window was shut all night ...

Booked 4 nights in Feb but stayed 5, so glad we decided to stay here out of the bustle and noise of Paihia. Jason and Stacey couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The location at the top of the hill above Paihia was great and it gave fantastic views, also much easier to get to Russell which was well worth a visit .Think it was worth paying for a seaview 1 or 2 bed even if there is only 2 of you. The pool area was attractive, extremley clean and child friendly. Altogether a great place to stay.

Went there last year with my husband and young son in Nov 07 on recommendation from our Travel Agent here in Australia, we loved every minute of stay there due to the hosts Jason and Stacy being very friendly and helpful in every way possible....my son James loved the pool area and also the massive grounds and play area they have there, spent hours on the tramp and around the pool......
We stayed there for two weeks, the room was very comfortable and had brillant views of the harbour...we where away from the hussle and bussle of the main street of Paihia so we had many lazy days on our balcony relaxing and catching up on sleep!! Thanks again Jason and Stac for a wonderful and memorable time, cant wait to come back for another visit!!

A good Hotel with excellent views of the bay. There's a nice pool and a large spar bath, again with nice views. Staff were helpful and friendly. The room was ok, but was beginning to show signs of wear and tear, the kitchenette was a bit tatty. A short walk to town, but down a steep hill.

We arrived on a Monday thinking we would easily find accommodation and struggled big time! In the end a motel owner rang the owner of the ALoha and he had rooms available for 2 nights. The motel is just outside Paihia but you could walk into town. The rooms are simple, clean, spacious and have nice touches such as cafetiere coffee, various teas, good sized fridge, proper cooker etc. The view from our 2 bed apartment was fantastic and would beat any view from the motels in town. It has a lovely, proper sized swimming pool (all the other motels we tried seemed to have oversized bath tubs!). Great motel.

  • Liked — Fabulous views and spacious accommodation.
  • Disliked — Carpet and flooring needed replacing.
