Stayed here for 2 nights and it was fab. We had a self catering room, but that did include breakfast. The house is set up in the hills with the most amazing views over the bay. The hosts were great, very welcoming and cooked the best breakfast!

My wife and I recently returned from a short two night stay with Heinz and Brita at their lovely home in Paihia. From the map, the hillside location of this modern stylish home may not suit everyone who intends walking home in the dark after a meal in town but the 10 minute trip up the ridge above the seafront enables stunning views from every room. The top suite is a delight, with picture postcard views over the Bay of Islands, out to Russell and beyond. The bedroom is very well furnished and the suite includes a modern shower room and kitchenette with wardrobe space. The room has a safe.
A guest lounge is similarly well appointed and affords extensive sea views. Internet is available although a charge is made.
Continental breakfast is freshly prepared and extensive...the food here is very good. Beach towels are made available for use in the garden spa or for convenience on day trips.

Paihia is a great centre for touring the Bay, with regular boat trips and good restaurants (Try 35 Degree South on the seafront for great fish but even better lamb shank!)

Allegra was the first B&B we stayed in in New Zealand and what a high standard it set. The house has been designed so that all rooms have a balcony overlooking the bay, the rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished and our breakfast could either be served on their large sunny balcony or brought to our own private balcony. Most importantly, the hosts are a delightful and professional couple who were happpy to help us making plans, suggesting restaurants or takeaways and answered all our questions about New Zealand. We wish we could have stayed longer!

We stayed two nights at Allegra House in the room at the top of the house. It had its own terrace with stunning views across to Russell. The room was comfortably furnished and had its own small kitchen. Breakfast was served on the terrace off Brita and Heinz' kitchen/living room and was freshly cooked to order, after wonderful fruit, fresh coffee etc. They are a delightful friendly couple, very willing to help with information etc. Wifi is available, which is great, but we were disappointed that a charge, although small, was made for what is actually cost-free to hosts. If you have broadband, it costs nothing for friends or guests to log into it. However, other than this, we would thoroughly recommend Allegra House for its position, welcome and great breakfast.

This is a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in the upstairs room which has an incredible view over the islands towards Russell for 4 nights. I couldn't stop looking at it! Heinz and Brita are lovely hosts-Brita even drove us back from a restaurant as it was raining. Thank-you both for being so welcoming and helpful. The en-suite room is large and luxurious, being very well appointed and has a large terrace to sit on too. A good Continental breakfast is served downstairs, outside if the weather is fit, complete with that lovely view. We went to the Swiss Restaurant in Paihia, which served excellent food and is very popular. We also did the Dune Rider tour up to Cape Reinga, which was well worth doing as it is in a smaller vehicle so you are not with the hordes. The boat trip to the hole in the rock and includes dolphin spotting was also a lovely way to spend an afternoon. Russell is well worth a visit as it is quaint and you can walk across to a nice beach.

  • Liked — The wonderful view
  • Disliked — The walk into Paihia was down a hill.

This is a wonderful B&B. We stayed on the top floor and the view is priceless. The host are very charming and helpful. The continental breakfast was a full cooked, breakfast. It is only a 2 minute drive into town. A wonderful location to explore the area.

  • Liked — The view-there is a little patio off of your room
  • Disliked — nothing
  • Tips/Secrets — They also have an apartment for families to rent
