We opted to stay in a more laid-back setting than Russell, with all the hype, and we were so glad we did. Paihia has better access to some great restaurants, like The Pear Tree, and the Treaty grounds, so we were happy to be in Paihia, AND atop the hill overlooking the bay was pretty cool, too. The room was wonderful, the breakfasts fantastic, and the accommodation perfect in every way. I would rush back there in a heartbeat.
