Visited this wonderful place, so beautiful, loved being on the water. Boat trip to Russel was fun. Fish and chips in the ship near the bridge was the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. The treaty grounds worth a visit all the surrounding area stunning.

“Small but beautiful”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

Paihia Harbour is small but beautiful with great views of the sea, islands and surrounds.

A Paihia Harbour is the place where all the local excursions leave from. Whether you fancy taking a sea plane trip, boat tour to the hole in the rock, the ferry across the harbour to Russel or are taking an overnight cruise to any of the other bay of islands, they all leave from here.

Surrounded by restaurants, shops, bars and cafes.

The turquoise sea in the harbour and surrounding little beaches is gorgeous and the gentle waves at the beach make it perfect for children to swim in.

“A place to remember”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

We spent three days in the Paihia area. The second one on the Bay of Islands. The tour boat was packed with tourists, half orientals and half caucasians, so trying to get a spot to take a picture was a challenge. It was particularly bad at the front where a group of American tourists took possession and would not allow people trying to take a shot at "the Hole in the Rock". After several polite requests I decided to imitate them and just wedge myself between them thus earning many dirty looks and mumbles about "rude Canadians". Nevertheless, the excursion was worth every penny. We enjoyed the vistas and the company of dolphins. The captain was very obliging and his comments were not only informative but funny. I would love to go back!

“Take the passenger ferry from Paihia to Russell.”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

On a perfect evening we decided to take the passenger ferry, which leaves by the wharf in the centre of Paihia to the small town of Russell. This saves a long drive around the coast. The crossing takes about ten minutes and costs 12NZ$.
Russell is a charming small seaside town with a nice beach and several restaurants and eating places. On a nice day the sunsets from here are amazing.

“Breathtakingly Beautiful”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

Just a beautiful place on the Bay of Islands in New Zealand. Sit on the wharf and watch the boats coming and going, have a meal staring wistfully over the harbour, book a tour or visit the vast array of local shops or walk along the uncrowded beach, Paihia Harbour has it all.

Take the ferry trip across the Bay to the beautiful township of Russell which is also a highlight and step back in time and simply relax on the waterside at one of the many restaurants and you cannot help but unwind.

A most beautiful part of a beautiful country
