“Quiet and relaxing”
Reviewed March 9, 2014

Stayed for 3 nights in a Waterfront Suite (top floor). Was spacious and very quiet (the only time we heard others was when they went past the door with luggage). Had a nice balcony to sit and watch the world go by at the end of the day. Lyn was very helpful in providing information on the local sights. Wifi was free and of good quality, lots of TV channels. Plenty of places to eat just a quick stroll down the road. Parking was adequate.

Having taken our time travelling from Auckland along the west coast, we arrived at approximately 6pm and met Ken at check in. He was knowledgeable and helpful with travel information and dinner recommendations which we found extremely useful.

We stayed for two nights at Unit 17. While this was not exactly at waterfront, we quite liked the location at the back of the premise. By the way, I could understand why an earlier poster complained bitterly about Unit 16.

Our one-bedroom unit was comfortable, spacious and reasonably clean. Free wifi access, wide choice of tv channels, cooking facilities and heater in the bathroom were all well appreciated. One downside was that the guest laundry room was only open from 8am to 8pm. Having been out the whole day and only back to the hotel after dinner, there was no way we could get our laundry done before 8pm. Perhaps the management could consider extending the hours to 10pm instead.

With the ferry terminal and shops just a stroll away, it is super convenient yet quiet and a good place to return ti after a full day's fun in the sun. It fully justifies the good reviews in TA.

Hi travelbugPJ

Thanks for taking the time to review our motel and glad you enjoyed your stay.

Thanks for your feedback on the laundry hours. We open the 12 hours a day and the reason it is closed at 8pm is to minimise noise on the property to ensure guests are not disturbed. However we do keep it open for guests on request.

Kind Regards
Ken and Lyn

My wife and I stayed here just one night on our way north. The room was lovely, a good size with separate bedroom. The décor was immaculate and the bathroom was also immaculate with a huge shower. The linen was absolutely spotless and the bed very comfortable. The room we chose had a bay view and a balcony which we made good use of. It is a bit more expensive but well worth the extra. It is the last motel on the promenade so very little noise from passers-by or traffic. I would certainly stay here again if in the area.

Room Tip: A room on the front with a bay view is well worth it.

I paid a premium to book a de luxe room thinking that we would be able to sit outside and eat on the advertised patio outside our room.

The 'patio' turned out to be a narrow strip of bricking with 2 old aluminium chairs and no table. I was offered a different unit, which did have a deck and the nice furniture shown in the photos of the motel, but this offered a view of the car park.

So while the unit itself was nicely decorated and clean and there was a good view from the room, I just felt very envious of the people I could see sitting on the balconies of the other motels on the beachfront. If I had not prepaid, I would have gone off looking for another place to stay.

I was glad I had only booked for one night.

Hi S F

I am most disappointed! You arrived prior to noon and as you had just come off a long haul flight, I courteously offered you an early check in as all you wanted to do was sleep.

When I showed you to the suite you complained that it never had two separate beds, although it clearly states on the website that the suite has a queen bed in the bedroom and a fold out bed in the living area. I then did offer you an alternate room with separate beds but you opted for the view in a Waterfront Suite.

Had you requested a balcony at the same time, I would have happily relocated you to an upstairs Waterfront Suite. We would also happily have refunded you in full had you expressed your concerns immediately as we do not want miserable guests. You could then have found alternate accommodation that morning to meet your needs.

Regards
Ken and Lyn

Modern, clean and comfortable motel, close to the sea, with fine views. (Also close to the road, but traffic noise was not intrusive).
Good air conditioning. Wide choice of TV channels (Sky), which was very welcome as we stayed during the Winter Olympics.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Would return here.

We stayed for 2 nights. It was a long, tedious drive from Auckland and we began to doubt if it was worth the effort. It was. Friendly reception with useful recommendations; big, comfortable room and super views. Cannot fault Breakwater Motel.

Room Tip: We had an upstairs room at rear of complex. It was quiet and had good view. Suspect that rooms at...

We spent two nights in a lovely suite with a waterfront view and enjoyed our stay immensely. Our room was extremely comfortable, very clean, with a well equipped kitchen and large bath. The view from our balcony was breath-taking. It overlooks the road but is very quiet at night. Our hosts were warm and welcoming. Couldn't ask for more!

Room Tip: A great spot to stay.
