Saturday at the Waitangi treaty grounds. A very recommendable thing to do while in Paihia. The tour and cultural experience is also very good to take part in!!!! Excellent value for money because if you do not complete in one day the ticket is valid for two!!

Staff were super friendly and helpful! $40 per person may sound steep, but we found plenty to explore and the pass lasted for two days. You can choose to explore yourself or go on a free (after admission is paid) tour. We chose to explore ourselves, but would often listen in to the passing tour groups that were lead by charismatic, knowledgeable guides. It is such an immensely important historical place for New Zealanders. Quite a bit of construction going on, but that was our only qualm.

This is a must do in New Zealand. An amazingly interesting history of the Maori / English interaction in the early 1800’s. Not a white man bash at all. Factual and informative. Museum is excellent. Guided tour run by proud Maoris and the cultural show us wonderfull.

Such recent history and yet an older time.
The story of how new Zealand came to be and much of why it is as it is today comes from here!
We learned and were inspired by the guided tour here.
Thank you.

Great way to learn about the beginnings of NZ, both Maori and European beginnings and the treaty between them.
