Owner description: Waitangi Treaty Grounds, New Zealand's most important historic site, is where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between the British Crown and the indigenous Maori in February 1840. Set on a stunning site overlooking the Bay of Islands, Waitangi is an absolute must-see for all visitors to the North, international and New Zealanders alike. Attractions include the historic Treaty House, a giant flagstaff, a unique fully carved Maori meeting house and the the world's largest single-hulled canoe (waka). Guided tours and cultural performances run at regular intervals throughout the day. Open daily except Christmas.

Very beautiful location on the sea, well maintained buildings and grounds, and a very informative guided tour explaining an important part of NZ's history. Highly recommended for all international visitors.

This was a fantastic trip. Allow a couple of hours. We are new to New Zealand and as we have work visas we paid just $20 to enter with the combo ticket.

I'd recommend this ticket as you would miss out on the brilliant Haka ceremony and Maori songs and performances. This really made the trip. Our 2 boys 6 and 3 we're blown away (if a little taken aback at first). The guided tour was wonderful too. Very informative.

The facilities were modern and spotless. The cake and coffee a welcome break.

Such an historic site. We felt privileged to be able to visit it. Thank you.

Even as a historian with a post graduate degree in New Zealand history, I found this place fresh and full of surprises. The grounds are beautiful, and the cultural performance group were an especial delight. I would happily return and would urge others contemplating making the trip to do so at their soonest opportunity.

A visit to the Treaty Grounds is essential if you want to understand New Zealand and it's history, particularly if you also do the guided tour. It is also a great place to be inspired b the Bay of Islands. The Maori concert is also a fantastic way to see Maori culture and is really not that scary.

Having never visited the treaty grounds before, I was keen to do this on my 29th birthday (!). But was hesitant about the price to get in (was guessing it would be similar prices to things in Rotorua) turns out if you have a nz drivers licence it's really cheap! Anyway the grounds are lovely, but I would recommend getting on a guided tour to get a full understanding of everything (unfortunately we didn't do that) definitely important for every kiwi to visit this place, we will be back :)
