the Kingsgate is very clean and well located in the Bay of Islands. the room is spacious and comfortable enough - the bed was too soft for my taste! as that is the only thing i can criticise it cannot be too bad!
my overall statement is that it is ok.

A good location across the road from the sea, and close to restaurants, shops etc. Clean and comfortable room. Friendly helpful staff.

Clean. Pleasant service. Handy for the waterfront. Easy parking. Perhaps the stairs are a little narrow when carrying cases upstairs. Food mundane. 8/10

Right in the heart of the action. I loved the location of this Hotel. We were able to walk to the ferries and to the shops and restaurants easily. Room was very comfortable and nicely proportioned. Bar Fridge however was empty except for the milk but otherwise fantastic place.

We had booked a room with a view of the Bay - superb views from our room. Room was spacious, more an apartment, with lounge and kitchen. Breakfast was a simple buffet - adequate.
Location was excellent, close to the jetty and many restaurants. We walked to Waitangi along the shoreline. One day we caught the ferry from the jetty to Russell for a leisurely stroll round the village.

We had a wonderful 5 night stay at the Kingsgate, a beautiful suite overlooking the sea.
We found all the staff to be really helpful and cheery.
We had originally booked in for 3 nights but it was so lovely we stayed for 2 more.

The first three nights we were in the suite and they are well worth the extra money as they enjoy great views and are extremely well equipped and fitted out to a very high standard.
The standard rooms are well equipped, have all the usual tea coffee etc & mini fridge. There is also complimentary ice available in a fridge on most floors, which was a nice touch.
The buffet restaurant is well placed with views across the bay, the evening food is of a very good standard with plenty of choices and well worth the cost.
We didn’t try the buffet breakfast as we felt it was a little expensive when you could get a breakfast in the town much cheaper. But my other half did take a look at the spread on offer one morning and he said it looked very good.
The bar is next to the restaurant and opens at 3pm (a shame it didn’t open earlier especially during the summer months at lunchtime as we would have been happy to use it )
The bar offers a happy hour from 5.30 - 6.30 and was very reasonably priced for a hotel.
There is a beautiful swimming pool to the front of the hotel and pool towels provided. The gardens surrounding the pool were gorgeous and maintained beautifully. There was plenty of seating, loungers, tables and umbrellas etc.
There is a private spa pool which you can hire free for 30 min slots. The changing rooms were always clean with fresh towels. There was also a table tennis, and ice hockey table available free.
The hotel offers free bikes for hire for residents which was also a nice touch and something we took advantage of.
A very good hotel that I cant wait to go back too.

The location is perfect, right on the waterfront, with wonderful views from the bar and restaurant (and some premium rate rooms), and an easy walk to the town. A better-than-motel pool (you could just about swim lengths) is in front, again with views of the Bay of Islands from the seating around. There's also a private spa pool just inside near the pool, and we had no problem booking a half hour slot. Near the spa is a games room, with table tennis and a pool table.
The food is better than average, both at breakfast and in the evening, though only good value if you eat your way through every course. The breakfast offered three choices, all reasonably priced: the simple tea-and-toast, the continental (with lots of fruit etc.), and the full (though the scrambled eggs were watery and they charged extra for cooking poached eggs to order). We found a little bakery in the street behind the hotel and made our own breakfast one day for a change.
The room was large and comfortable and there was an excellent self-service laundry (a feature of most New Zealand hotels).
This is a definite cut above the motel its name implies!
