“Fantastic location ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2014 via mobile

stayed here on a trip with my two children for 6 days. By far the best location in all of Paihia! Our room was clean and had everything we needed- clean linen, comfortable beds, large new shower. We have previously stayed in 3 other establishments, however firmly believe this place trumps them all.

We spent our middle week in NZ on BOI at Kingsgate. We absolutely loved the suite we were upgraded to. Views were brilliant, pool and gardens were clean and the Christmas buffet was amazing! We'd love to come back. We found the staff to be very helpful and polite, especially the lady on Reception from Oldbury :-)

Stayed as always as our annual holiday/hotel destination. This is 2014-----surely your WIFI needs a serious look at especially the PRICING. I fully understand you are having serious problems with the new installation and have to sympathise with the reception staff getting the flak for it BUT
20mins free in the lobby AND THEN $10.50 for 30mins or 50mb.Even when eventually goes live throughout the rooms these charges will still be applicable. Made a few phone calls this am to nearby Motels to find their policy---FREE WI FI.Unfortunately if this doesn't change will be finding another Motel to stay which will be a shame as always have looked at this as my 2nd home and been returning for many years with family and now Grandchildren which tells you I am not in the young generation.I may also add when you use the free Lobby by the time you get signed in it is showing 19mins left and am sure it closes down before a true 20mins. This review is in no reflection of the staff here and everything else excellent.Another small point feel the driveway needs a much larger sign saying NO EXIT---saw many using it as an exit and also a staff member in uniform I am sure it is made no exit for safety reasons.Gardens as lovely as ever but a little worried that the previous gardener may have moved on this time.

Room Tip: Same as always any 4 corner suites in 400 block.

I unreservedly apologise for the issues with our WIFI system. Unfortunately we were totally let down by our initial installer and now have appointed another installer to fix our problems. This has been a real frustration not only for our guests but also for our staff and myself. As far as the pricing goes you are absolutely correct and there was a breakdown in communication partly due to the technical problems we have been having. Currently guests now receive 20 minutes free in the lobby and can then buy another 30 minutes for $3. However once we get our WFI system operating correctly I will totally review our WIFI pricing structure.

As far as the exit goes. After 20 years of using Marsden Road as both an entry and exit, with no issues, the council decided that it could only be used as an entry and not an exit. The problem is that some guests have difficulties getting back to the main road when using our rear exit, so we have tended to turn a blind eye to guests exiting direct onto Marsden Road.

I trust that we can continue to accommodate you in the future and again I unreservedly apologise for the WIFI problems during your last stay.

Regards

It's a little bit dated, but it was a very clean beach hotel with a nice bar and restaurant. We had the do not disturb and the cleaning staff left toiletries and towels at the door. Reception, bar, and restaurant staff were all very friendly. They reception, pool, bar, and restaurant had amazing views! Overall we had a great holiday.

Waterfront location and easy walk to most places in Paihia. Handy to shops, restaurants and ferry terminal. Waitangi Treaty Ground about 10 minutes walk away. Safe, sandy beach only a few minutes walk away.
Hotel itself is comfortable with clean rooms and outdoor pool. Indoor spa booked in half hour allotments for privacy. Hotel has restaurant on top floor with view across the bay. Outdoor lift arrangement seen, but if you have disability, I'd suggest asking for a ground floor room as there are stairs to the top floor rooms.
Public wifi is questionable in the lobby, sometimes signal, sometimes no signal.
Fridge in room. Large supermarket a few minutes drive around the corner from hotel. Parking is available outside the rooms.
This is an average hotel and good value for the area, but location is the best aspect.

Room Tip: Top floor with corner window has view of the bay.

We stayed overnight. Staff so helpful, we had a puncture and they went out of their way to help us. Carvery excellent value for money everything so tasty - starters: mains : desserts and cheese. Breakfast the following day amazing, breakfast chef spoke to us about his passion for cooking breakfast then told us how he enjoyed the rest of the day fishing around the bay of Islands. We had a ground floor apartment room everything we needed, except wifi which meant we had to go on a walkabout apart from that a perfect setting and helpful staff to the extreme,. Would recommend a stay here to anyone.

Thank you for your feedback and I am pleased you had such a great stay.I apologise for our Wi-fi not working in your room during your stay. We installed Wi-fi throughout our hotel late last year but the system has not performed as our installer promised. This problem should be solved in the next week.
