“Great peaceful holiday”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

We are a family of 4 kiwis, taking a break from Auckland. We stayed at CLM for 5 nights and had a very relaxing holiday.

What attracted me to booking this place was the pool and trampoline for the kids, plus the view. On arrival Norm informed us that the pool had just been filled and was warming up. Our kids were desperate for a swim (keep in mind this is early Oct) so jumped into the 14 deg water! Bit chilly but these are kiwi kids! Next day pool temp was up to early 20 deg celcius - ahhh, bliss. We had apt 8 which was the best location for us. We could see the kids on the trampoline and had a lovely wooden deck to sit and look out over the bays.

I would not normally stay in a motel - we travel alot and I like my luxuries. However, I was not disappointed with CLM. We had all we needed and it was very quiet so we felt we had the run of the place. Norm and Shelagh are very helpful and considerate hosts. I would recommend this place to families who want great facilities and don't want to pay $300 - $350 per night for accom.

Stayed here for the weekend and had a great time. Norm and Shelagh were fantastic hosts and did everything they could to make my stray enjoyable. The motel is located about 3 km outside Paihia with amazing views over the Bay of Islands. Norm arranged a boat cruise with one of the local companies and it really was fantastic - a great way to get a proper appreciation of the Bay. Stopped off in Russell on the way back at Norm's suggestion and he gave some recommendations about things to do there and where to eat. Had a great dinner in 35 deg south (Aquarium) on the Sat night. They seemed to be full but managed to squeeze me in as I hadn't booked. So, if you are interested in beautiful views and excellent friendly and personal service, you couldn't do better that Cook's Lookout. What after you waiting for?!

Room Tip: Ask for a view rather than pool access

We stayed at Cook's Outlook for three nights as part of our honeymoon in New Zealand. Arriving late the first night we were delighted to find out that we had been upgraded to a two bedroom with better views.

What can we say about the views, absolutely amazing and as we were there in late winter/early spring we got to see them in various conditions, all beautiful.

Norm and Shelagh could not have been better hosts. On arrival Norm was not only able to recommend some activities and trips to do but was also able to arrange these for us too. This was great as we only had three nights there and arrived late the first night.

Norm was also able to recommend some places to eat, which during a short stay is really helpful, the food was great.

If you are visiting New Zealand and head to the Bay of Islands we would highly recommend you spend a few days in Cook's Outlook Motel.

The service provided by Norm and Shelaigh was over and above the call of duty, as Norm was
prepared to pick us at 1.00 am in wet weather from a private function, to ensure that we didn't have to worry about drinking and driving.

Our unit was very clean, spacious, and had the most marvellous views from both the lounge and master bedroom, whilst the outdoor deck also provided both privacy and terrific views.

I would recommend this motel complex to anyone wanting the peace and quiet, yet only 3 or 4 minutes away from the heart of Piahia.

Room Tip: Ask for 2 bedroom Oceanside Apartments.

We spent one night at Cook's Lookout Motel, Norm the owner was very helpful, he had a wide range of knowledge and contacts with the local tourism/attraction operators and was able to schedule us a special fishing trip on very short notice (for a small group!).

The facilities are excellent, the showers work brilliant, everything you need is provided! Norm is fully there to assist you with anything you need. I couldn't recommend this facility any more!! The views are amazing, the beds very comfy, everything is very private, secluded and cosy, it feels like home.

DONT MISS THIS IF YOU'RE GOING TO THE BAY OF ISLANDS!!!

Just got home and already planning the trip back for next year - will defintely be going back to Cooks Lookout Motel!

Room Tip: Just ask the owner, he will sort you out with the best room!!! He gave us the best room on the short...

My partner and I spent two nights here and where blown away with the great service and friendliness of Norm and Shelagh. The rooms are nice and spacious with a million dollar view to die for. Shower pressure was very strong. Thanks for letting us use the extra room and extending the checkout time at no charge. Highly recommended if your staying in Paihia this is the hotel you want!

When we look back on our trip to NZ this is one of the places we stayed that we most often talk about, as it felt like a really special place to stay. We were unexpectedly upgraded to a 2 bedroom unit which gave us an enormous amount of space - and amazingly beautiful views (I'd requested a view). We fondly remember dining on the veranda in the evening looking out over the bay, and trying to capture the amazing views in photographs as the sun set.
There was a laundry room on-site and a rotary airer which was really handy on our long trip, as well as a swimming pool which we didn't use but which looked lovely. Norm and Shelagh were great hosts, giving us lots of useful information, and we were delighted to find we could enjoy some music from Norm in Paihia whilst we were there! It's a short drive into Paihia where we found parking easy and from where there are frequent ferries to Russell, another beautiful place to visit. Hope to return one day and would def recommend staying here.
