“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2014

Having enjoyed great fish and chips all around New Zealand we were disappointed with our fish here at Shippey's which was too wet and made the batter and the chips soggy. The worst we had in our whole trip.

“Great fish and chips in a fun setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2014

We came to Shippey's for fish and chips for dinner, we loved that the restaurant is on an old boat! The fish was excellent and well priced. We would have preferred if the staff had been more attentive & greeted us when we arrived.

“Good old fish & chips.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2014 via mobile

We went to Shippey's and had bluenose, chips & salad with a side of calamari. The size of the fish was smaller than our local chippy but still a good size and in a lovely light batter - very nice, as was the good size pieces of calamari.

The novel use of the boat & it's history added to the fish & chips.

If your looking for great fish & chips, in a novel location and are not expecting to be waited on with flash table service then Shippey's is worth a visit.

“Fresh fish but uninspiring atmosphere”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2014

Shippeys is based onboard the TUI, an old vessel on the hard at Waitangi.
The restaurant is on deck and whilst the plastic covers were down, it was a cool autumn evening and there was no sign of any heating.
No attempt seems to have been made to introduce any atmosphere into the dining area.
That said, the fish was delighfully fresh and the ships wee good. Prices were reasonable for sit down meal though takeaway fish and chips are available at a more reasonable price in town..

“Overpriced lousy food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014

After a visit at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds we decided to stop over the beach near the bridge. Shippeys was just next to the bridge so we decided to take away some snacks. Bought fish & chips & seafood chowder. We paid $17 for the fish & chip & $11.50 for the chowder. By the time we walked to the beach across the road from Shippeys, probably just 3 minutes later, the 2 pieces dory fish was already soggy! It was super oily too. The seafood chowder was one of the worse I've tried from a restaurant. It was practically just cream with pieces of mussels. There was hardly any other seafood that we could taste or see. Very disappointing and felt ripped off!
