We stayed at Club Paihia last week and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The unit was obviously one of the refurbished ones and was very well appointed and clean. It was our first visit to the Bay of Islands area and we enjoyed our time there. Caught the end of the Jazz fest which was good. Good restaurants in the town. Did the tours that you have to do and explored the top end. Ate lots of fush n chups although the world famous fish n chip shop at Mangonui was a let down for us. We would go back to visit the area and would be happy to stay at Club Paihia again.

Room Tip: Ask for the refurbished units.

Club Paihia, NZ is a beautiful large resort property, which is located at a walking distance from the ain market and touristy places. This property is located on the hills, so one may have to walk up a bit, if room is higher up. This is a non-serviced property with amenities provided inhouse. We enjoyed the hot water spa.

Room Tip: If you have elderly people travelling or if you are generally lazy, ask for a room which is nearer t...

We have owned at Club Paihia Timeshare resort for over 20 years although it is a few years since we last stayed there. The resort is currently undergoing a major renovation both in the remodernisation of the units and bringing the grounds up to a safer standard. This is not a cheap exercise and is being done over a three year period. There are 9 chalets at Club paihia generally with 6 apartments per chalet. The Apartments are a mixture of studio, one bedroom and 2 bedroom apartments. All are fully furnished and all a guest needs to bring is their own food. Everything else is supplied.
We stayed in Chalet 3 which has just been refurbished. Where necessary all fittings and fixtures have been replaced and the colour scheme updated from the 1980s. They are still as comfortable as ever.
The resort however is built on the side of the hill and a reasonable degree of fitness is required to get around. There are three small swimming pools on site the two smaller ones being heated. Each chalet has a common spa pool or jaccuzzi.
A common lounge has a pool table, outdoor chess set, library and a tour desk.
Away from the chalets through a boardwalk surrounded by trees is a childrens play area with swings and slides and a flood lit full sized tennis court.
Internet is available through a prepay card and sky televison provides access to all major sports channels.
The staff at Club Paihia are all very experienced and helpful and it is a treat to holiday there.
The resort in Williams Road is about 5 minutes walk to the main shopping centre and attractions.

Room Tip: A reasonable degree of fitness is required to get around the resort

Recommend for a relaxing, comfortable family holiday. Quiet and very close to the centre of town and restaurants. The pool is beautiful. Set on a steep driveway. So well set up you barely need to leave. Apartment was really clean and spacious. Really enjoyable place to kick back for a while

We stayed at Club Paihia in December over the Christmas week. The resort is built on a steep hill a 5 minute walk from the town. It is a self catering resort. The chalets are clean and spacious. The cutlery and crockery is of a good standard. Dishwashing and laundry soap is provided.
If you stay in one of the units at the bottom it can be very noisy as the ceiling is made of wood. This means that you can hear the people above you walking around in the morning. The noise woke us up each day. If you stay at this resort stay in a top unit. There are only 4 units in a block and each block has its own outdoor spa. There is a swimming pool and a games room.
The only reason I have not provided a higher review is because the reception was locked over the Christmas and Boxing Day period. This meant that it was impossible to rent videos or get any level of service. When the reception was open the staff were lovely and very helpful.
There is a four square small suppermarket a 4 minute walk from the resort. If you require selection I suggest that you go to the Countdown supermarket a 6 minute drive from the resort.
The bay of Islands was underwhelming. The majority of activities involve water sports. If you are not a sailor then there are nicer places to visit in New Zealand. Suggest you go to the Lake Taupo region, Roterua or anywhere on the South Island.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room near the bottom of the resort.

We started our New Zealand holiday at Club Paihia, on a timeshare exchange, and found it to be very clean and comfortable, with friendly, helpful staff. Perfect place to get over the jet lag, but do not recommend if you have walking difficulties because all the units are up a very steep hill. Just a short walk to the shore though and it was so handy for a trip to Cape Reinga and the Waitangi Treaty House.

Room Tip: The units at the top of the resort have the best view, but are further up the hill.

Our stay at this hotel was very enjoyable. Room was very clean and updated including a full kitchen and side patio area with table and chairs. Lovely spot for breakfast each morning. There was a pool, entertainment area to keep the children happy and also a library. A tennis court was available for the children to book and use. A closed in spa and area for relaxing was attached to each group of units (about 4). The giant chess set was an added bonus for the children and adults. First night we could not turn on the stove and by 7am the next morning we had the domestic staff there to fix. The problem was us, the operation of the stove was told to us which was to be documented for future occupants. Only a few minutes walk to the local shopping centre , beach, police station, hospital and the local boats going out to the various tourist attractions in the Bay of Isles. The units were spread around the complex and blended in well to the hills behind. I would definitely go back and stay at this resort as there was more than enough activities to keep the children happy and safe within the complex.
