We booked this tour while on the Queen Mary 2 so had 2 full Waka Taua canoes. We had the perfect day (warm and sunny) to go paddling up the Waitangi River. Our host, Tani, was a 13 year-old who has an extensive knowledge of his heritage, ancient customs, rituals and traditions of his Maori people. We learnt so much from this enthusiastic young man during our two hour paddle in one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand. We always enjoy getting off the usual tourist beaten track to immerse ourselves in the local culture and this tour did not disappoint! To paddle a Maori war canoe is something that doesn't happen every day and Tani made sure that it was something we would never forget. Thanks Tani.
