Visit the famous Cape Reinga lighthouse at witness the Pacific Ocean collide with the Tasman Sea. We were picked up at 7:00 am at the corner of our bed and breakfast in Paihia and the bus driver took us all the way to the top of the North Island to Cape Reinga, where the Pacific Ocean and the Tasmin Sea meet. It was gorgeous. From there we drove on the sand right by the water's edge on 90 mile beach and ended up in these huge sand dunes that you got on a "boogie board" of sorts and had to walk up this huge sand dune and then we slid down. It was very exciting and crazy!
The bus driver was very informative. We stopped in a couple of other places that were very interesting. Got back at 7:00 pm, so it was a full day, but worth it!

A great trip to the tip of the North Island! Picked up outside our hostel by driver Kev(?), who was a wealth of knowledge from beginning to end. We stopped for a short walk to the huge Kauri trees, and carried onto Cape Reinga where the Tasman and Pacific Seas meet - and you really can tell where they meet! The views were incredible and the lighthouse was a beauty! The sandboarding just before we hit 90 mile beach was so much fun, even if my sister and I were scared once we reached the hike to the top of the dunes. So much fun though! The drive along 90 mile beach was something you don't do everyday, and the added bonus of trying tuatua (shellfish that couldn't be any fresher!) made the day even more unforgettable. The day finished with fish 'n' chips by the sea. Amazing and would recommend it to anyone.

The trip was brilliant, a very long day but so glad I got to do it and see such a beautiful place in NZ. The weather was fantastic which made it even better. Had Barry as our driver and he kept us entertained all day. Cape Reinga is a beautiful place and doing the sandboarding was great fun too.

When you board your bus you are not prepared for the raw sight of nature you will see in the fury of the sea on the East Coast of the North Island. People underestimate the power that the sea has and traps those who forget. The wrecks of cars pounded by the sea are testament to the unwarey. Further, as he bus exits the beach the creek has quicksand where if drivers are too slow, a tractor waits to pull the unfortunate out. Ah, just one of the action to be enjoyed on one of the world's greatest beaches.

The trip was non-stop and action packed. Our driver, Derrick, was excellent-he was able to give us information about all of our stops and sites along the way without being overbearing. We took this trip on Dec. 29, '12, one of the busiest weeks of the year and Derrick made sure that we went in the opposite direction of the other buses, so that we would see our sites without large crowds. We were able to stop at all locations without having to rush. This is a "must-do" for anyone who goes to the North island. The Maori spiritual aspect of Cape Reinga and seeing where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean is unforgettable. In addition to the Sand Dune surfing, the Kaori Forrest and the (world's best) Mangonui Fish and Chips make for an amazing experience!
