Booked the afternoon tour & went along with husband & toddler.

The staff & facilities available on boat were fantastic. Good content provided during tour and staff were friendly & helpful.

Although an overcast day, we managed to spot a group of seals & dolphins. Made my toddlers day!

Great tour, look forward to coming back in summer time.

Thank cmooks

We booked on the morning Dolphin Cruise with Fullers Great Sights, boarding at Russell. We were very lucky to have fantastic weather despite the fact we were travelling in June! The boat itself is great - plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, with snacks and hot and cold drinks available for a reasonable price. I can imagine that it would get busy in the peak times, so if you boarded at Russell like we did, you might find that the outdoor seating is full. But when we went, we were able to move around the entire boat which gave different views. All the crew are friendly and helpful and provided a great commentary.
The trip itself was well worth the time and money - there are faster trips that take you out to the Hole in the Rock but if you have the time for one of the four-hour trips I would recommend that instead - we got to see all sorts of interesting islands, and had a brilliant stop to see the dolphins. Those who braved the cold water to swim with the dolphins looked like they had an amazing time, and for just $15 (which goes towards dolphin conservation), we were sorry that we hadn't put our hand up when they asked who was interested! Being able to watch a pod of dolphins in the wild was incredible.
When we got to the Hole in the Rock itself, the sea was so rough we couldn't go through the Hole, but that didn't matter as we had had such a great trip out there - another reason to go for the longer trip rather than one of the short ones - the only real purpose of the short trip is to go through the Hole in the Rock, which isn't always possible.
There is also a photographer on the boat, and for $40 you can get a pack with a photo of your group on the boat and a CD with hundreds of brilliant photos of the landscapes and wildlife in the area. The photographer was lovely, and is happy to show you the photos and talk about the trip, not once did we feel pressured into buying the photos.
Overall, well worth the money, a very memorable trip and something we would definitely do again given the chance.

Taking the morning cruise to ‘The hole in the rock’ was memorable. The way the light dappled on the water made for awesome photos that capture a wonderful experience. The captain was very informative and guided the visitors through the history of the region and helped us understand how the area evolved. The passage through the ‘Hole in the Rock’ was with precision and care. The captain certainly knew how to read the waves so the vessel was in no danger at any time. The captain also took the time and diverted the trip so the visitors were able to see wild dolphins and seals. Overall it was a highlight of the area in Northland, NZ.

Had excellent weather to view the spectacular islands and smooth conditions, one of our fellow passengers swam with the dolphins and seemed to have a great time. Loved going through the hole in the Rock and stopped at Russell for a couple of hours which was well worth it.

HI Georgie-Pam,

It's lovely to hear that you took advantage of the weather in the Winter-less North! We're lucky that dolphins make the Bay of Islands their home all year long, and Motukokako island, or the hole in the rock, is always a sight to behold.

We're also glad you agree that getting off the boat in Russell to explore is worth it - especially when you can get the ferry back for free with your cruise ticket!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review.

Happy and Safe Travels,

The Team at Fullers GreatSights.

Myself and my partner were travelling New Zealand between February and March this year and in Paihia we had a horrible hostel with the room mates from Hell. But, these two trips really took our minds off of that. The first afternoon we were there we did the hole in the rock tour and we got to see Dolphins and have a spot of lunch at the very clean and pretty Okahu Island (I think) It was a beautiful day. The next day we did the cape Reinga tour and it was breathtakingly beautiful and serene . Then we went to this beautiful quiet beach called Tapotupotu Beach. We went sandboarding and then to 90 mile beach our bus driver said to try Pipi shells I ate two kinda just like shell fish but you can eat them raw. Our Bus driver was called John he was a legend, A really cool guy. Then we stopped off at Manganui for the most amazing fish and chips I think I've ever had really good. Just want to say thank you so much both of these trips were magical and amazing!!!!
