“The best place we stayed in New Zealand”

This place was amazing! Paul & Barbara were the best hosts you could hope for & so helpful with booking us trips, advice and the food was just fantastic! Blueberry muffins on arrival and a cold beer for the hot tub were a couple of the highlights. It felt like home and you can tell Paul & Barbara enjoy running this lovely B&B.
The views were fantastic too - the room with the corner bath was the most fantastic. I'd recommend this place to couples, families, friends, anyone!

It doesn't get any better than this: a wonderful B & B in a gorgeous rural setting on the outskirts of Paihia. The rooms were nicely appointed and the food excellent. Barbara and Paul were fantastic hosts. You can tell they thoroughly enjoy operating a B & B. Not only did they guide us on things to do in the area and places to dine, but Paul was kind enough to take us on a guided hike. The cold water bottles they provided each morning were a nice touch. I can't say enough about the beauty of the Bay of Islands, clearly the most beautiful spot on the entire north island.

Spent one night at Morepork Riverside Lodge (Paihia) on pleasure trip to Bay of Islands.
Barbara and Paul welcomed us at the front door. Lovely couple who obviously enjoy their B n B accommodation.
Beautifully presented rooms with fabulous river/country views.
While we explored the immaculate gardens, two slices of freshly made cake appeared on our bedside table.. Nice touch and most appreciated.
Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, cereals, coffee, tea, freshly squeezed orange juice and freshly cooked bacon/eggs/tomatoes and toast - all very fresh and perfectly presented.
Lovely decor with matching linen/towels and own fabulous spa bath and separate shower in our room,
Thoroughly recommended for even the most fastidious traveller - well worth every dollar and excellent attention from hosts

Paul and Barbara help lpan your days activites they will advise of things to do along the way what to take places to see. They will book any tours you wont get you value for money. Paul puts cold water on your car each morning nice touch. When you come home after a days sight seeing you will find a treat in your room cheese & biscuits, chocolate buscuits or perhaps Paul has been baking ( there goes the diet). Dinner with your host is one of the most enjoyable I have ever had the other two guest where a real hoot, breakfast usually took 2 and half hours and dinner even longer. It was one of the most relaxing times my husband and I have had. Both Paul and Barbara and the cat made you feel at home and nothing was ever too much trouble. They are just a delight to be around. Except for the sound of a passing car you would think that you are in heaven just a beautiful setting.

We stayed 3 nights at the Morepork Riverside Lodge (Waitangi Room), and by far this was the best B&B we have ever stayed at (including our travels to Ireland, Scotland, England and in the US). Paul and Barbara have thought of every detail, large or small to make our stay an incredible memory.
Upon arrival our room had fresh flowers, all the necessities, a bottle of wine, coffee/tea, fruit and snacks, wireless internet (immediate connection). The view from our room was amazing, it overlooked the back of the property with the beautiful river running through it.
After settling in, Paul and Barbara took time to get to know us so they could suggest some activities we might be interested in while staying in the Bay of Islands region. They even called to make reservations for us for the Maori Culture Experience.
Prior to our arrival we had booked a deep sea fishing charter and Paul contacted the charter to find out where and when we were to meet up with them the next day. The morning of our fishing trip, Paul prepared a full cooked breakfast at 6 am for us. He also sent us out the door with a bag full of goodies for our fishing trip (waters, coffee, fruit, chips, and cookies). This was a VERY thoughtful gesture since the boat charter we booked did not provide lunch or beverages.
After our day of fishing, which happened to turn out great (caught 2 large yellowfin king fish), Paul was waiting at the dock when our boat arrived back to see what we had caught. He offered to prepare our catch in a variety of ways (as well as offering this to the other guests and some friends of theirs from down the road ) and prepared a cornucopia of side dishes. The meal was amazing as was the company.
The breakfasts offered at Morepork were second to none. The presentation was phenomenal. Freshly squeezed orange juice, coffee, tea, eggs, bacon, toast, tomatoes, cereal, pineapple, kiwi, other fruit kabobs, yogurt and even one morning after our catch Barb made fish cakes (very delicious). The breakfasts were so large and filling that we didn't really even need to stop for lunch.
Barb and Paul made excellent recommendations on what to see and do in the area and we really enjoyed the Kauri forest which was highly recommended. One other activity that we had the pleasure of being a part of was that they were having their alpaca's (Anzac and TimTam) and sheep sheared. We were given the opportunity to 'help' out and watch the shearing. It was quite fun...although, TimTam was not a fan of his first shearing experience! The alpaca's and other animals (Pollux-the goat was hilarious) made the stay even more enjoyable.
On the morning of our departure down to Waitomo (7 hour drive), Paul and Barb again had an amazing breakfast for us and then sent us on our way with a care package of smoked fish with crakers and avocados. They really thought of EVERYTHING!!
After arriving at our next B&B in the Waitomo region, we were surprised to hear that Paul and Barb had contacted the B&B to make sure we arrived safely. This really was a stunning example of their Kiwi hospitality! They are wonderful people who run an incredible B&B. We are now spoiled because it will be hard for any other B&B to live up to the exceptional quality and service of Morepork!

The owners of Morepork Riverside Lodge were exceptional in the interest they took in answering my questions and sharing information about the surrounding area in Kerikeri and Pahia. Many emails went back and forth and with each one, the owners showed care and concern for my trip to New Zealand. They truly love what they do and their enthusiasm for helping others is contagious. I do believe Trip Advisor is an important site because I check it each time I travel to a new location and I rely on the accuracy and honesty of the review and thus the reason why I am happy to write this review and share it with others. With people this kind waiting for you when you arrive, you will have a happy stay and really come to know Kiwi hospitality.
