We were passing at 5pm and booked for the same evening. Had we been told to expect a tasting style menu we might have gone elsewhere, indeed we were not told until we were well into our bottle of wine! We had 4 dishes between two of us, two were fantastic (actually they were the same dish), one was pretty good and one - the duck - was not enjoyable at all. It may have been beautifully cooked (according to the chef ) but it was very disappointing.
One objective of a restaurant is surely that the customer is happy but there was no attempt at appeasement on this occasion, more 'you didn't like it, too bad!' Disappointing as the service otherwise was very pleasant

Not impressed with the food we had at Pacifica. Staff tells you that there will only be small plates. Yes, they are VERY small and VERY expensive for their size. The food was NOT special, as we thought it would; rather lackluster, weird combinations, lacking any special flavors....no vegetables and no salad. Restaurant is trying to be "different." Very disappointed. We are used to eating top-end food, all around the world, and this was very unimpressive and strange. NOT good at all! Look for another restaurant if you want tasty food!

This was the best restaurant that we have been to in our two week trip to New Zealand. The chef, Jeremy is a wizard in his selection of local ingredients and his innovative creations. Have anything made with seafood! Our experience was very different from Murray11_12 reported earlier: We agree that the servings are small, but the food was exceptionally good and worth the price.

On our Second Day in Napier we had been recommmended to go there. We were surprised by the real creativeness of the 12 dishes offered and the combination of local products and flavours and an presentation which was outstanding .The explanations of the service were competent ,the attention very good, and the taste of the different dishes, simply of international high standard.,
Each dish was cooked individually , and one could feel the professionaliism and the concentration, with which the staff focused each individual order, beforemit came fresh and well tasting .This will be definitely one of the real culinary highlights of our New Zealand trip,
This is a must to go there and it will be worth to travel extra there!!!!!

Having heard and read good comments about this restaurant since coming to live here in Napier, we decided on a special occasion to finally go and have the experience one saturday evening. Firstly the service was fantastic, no complaints there that's for sure. It was the construction of the Tapa's (I'm sorry that is the only word to describe this meal experience - they were so small). Our menu was in three different categories, described to us by our waiter, first being small entree size, second medium size appetite, and the third being close to a main size. My partner had a first category as a entree plus a main, and I had a entree size plus a medium (normally I only have two entree's), well, both of our dishes (4 in all) were never a match made in heaven, the flavors never flowed, in fact they collided, i.e. Duck breast in a stew of calamari and prawns! We both felt very let down by the build up this restaurant had received, and the food that arrived was not even average as far as the flavor was concerned. There were no vegetables available either, very weird.
We travel extensively and have dined at top of the line restaurants when we are near them i.e. Rick Steins, Neil Perrys and even Gordon Ramsays to mention a few, along with many of our NZ top chefs restaurants that we have followed over the years, and each time we have come away smacking our lips with the flavors of beautiful combinations lingering, and thinking we must go back there next time. Sorry to have to say this but we will not be going back to Pacifica again, it was an utter waste of money.
