It pains me to rate a hotel lower than I would like to, unfortunately this hotel did not meet my expectations at the price point. I booked a premium 2 bedroom suite, price range is $440-$660 per night, a rate that did not include breakfast. As far as I could tell this differs from the standard suite, in that the standard has 1 less en-suite, no wash machine/dryer and perhaps a little smaller. The hotel was air-conditioned (quiet) in the main hall (not ducted to the bedrooms). The hotel has only 2 of these rooms situated at the top floor and facing the sea. The larger room with ensuite comes with bathroom (nearly as large as the bedroom) and a bath/spa combination. The other room has an ensuite with a shower. Both equipped with the usual towels, amenities (shampoo, conditioner, soap) and thick bathrobes. Also has fully equipped kitchen with mini bar. It was kept very clean and the hotel is very new. The first thing that struck me was how tiny the LCD TV was (only about 20"), perhaps having rented an apartment at Taupo the night before for about the same price with a 42" LCD TV made it seem smaller.
The rooms are reasonably well insulated from road noise which is between the hotel and the sea. However this peace was broken in the morning when construction/demolition began next door. I asked if another room was available but they said only the standard rooms were available (with no mention of any refunds). I booked directly from the hotel website which promised free wine or something. I did not get this nor did I bother to ask for any. The website displays pictures from 3 sides but not the side where all the construction is happening, nor did it mention anything about the possibility that your stay may be less than peaceful. I will leave it up to you as to what you think of this omission. In the past, my stay at quality resorts were heavily discounted if the presence of construction would even remotely affect the tranquility. Attached are pictures showing the construction side which they have left out.
There are undercover parks available but they are not enough for all the rooms and are not allocated either. So don't expect any premium rates you pay to guarantee a covered park, as they are on a first come first served basis.
I normally use hotel gyms, but this tiny one only had a rower, exercycle and some weights, it was quite sad looking and I did not bother.
Overall, it is a clean tidy and new hotel, but in my opinion falls far short of "luxury". The standard is only of a good business quality motel certainly not a luxury hotel. The morning breakfast staff was helpful and friendly.
I would not be staying here again for the price.
