“Great stay for a couple”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

We chose this motel via an internet search and it more than met our expectations. Our main requirements were good value for money, and also cleanliness. We were delighted to find the bathroom pristine, there is nothing worse than a grubby bathroom. The kitchen too was perfectly clean and tidy, and we were happy with just an electric frypan and microwave for cooking. All facilities and furnishings were of very good quality and in great working order. Plenty of space for just a couple; the bed is in the living area and the couch in the small entrance lounge, meaning you sit or lie on the bed to watch TV, but this was not a problem to us. Great to have some free wifi, especially since the bigger city hotels often charge the earth to use wifi in rooms. Overall a really pleasant couple of nights!

Room Tip: We were near the back, not on the main road, quiet and handy to the beach for a walk. This motel is...

This was our 2nd stay at At the Rocks and not only do we recommend this hotel to our family, we have also made our 3rd booking so I think it is fair to say that we like it!
We have a toddler so stay in the suite with 2 x queen beds (1 in the lounge, 1 in the bedroom) and the suite is more than adequate and safe for us. The room was very clean - I did the normal Mum thing and got down to my daughters eye level and there wasn't anything that I had to get off the floor etc so I was happy.
Comfy, warm beds with additional blankets if required plus electric blankets and a generous sized bathroom.
The kitchenette is perfect, for quick meals - you wouldn't cook gourmet meals in it, there are fantastic restaurants only a short walk away and there is ample storage for the paraphernalia that you end up bringing with a small child.
Meeanee Quay is a busy road, but the traffic noise didn't bother us at all, even on a Friday and Saturday night.
David is lovely, very friendly and he was always pleasant when we dealt with him.
For the purpose of my rating, I have marked the swimming pool as excellent, even though there isn't one as the beach is just across the road.
There is no restaurant, but there is a breakfast menu which is pretty good, so I have marked restaurant as excellent also.

The room was adequate and bed comfortable, it had a beautiful bathroom and was overall nice and clean. The hosts were accomodating and let us checking in early as we had arrived in Napier an hour earlier then we expected. The Wi-fi with free 250 mb was appreciated. A bit far from town, so going out late into town and having a few drinks would require a taxi back. We would stay closer to town next time we were on holiday in Napier.

Room Tip: something more towards the back, away from the road and the gym

Our family of four stayed here during our trip in April 2013. Our accommodations were comfortable. Our children shared a room with two twin beds. Our king/queen bed was in the living room area, which was sort of strange, but ok. David, our host, was very hospitable. Didn't know about the wine and cheese nor brekkie other reviewers mentioned, but no worries! Nic e, clean hotel.

We spent four nights at this property and enjoyed every minute of our time. Our room (#7) was very spacious, the modern bathroom was huge, and the kitchenette perfectly adequate. We absolutely loved the secluded patio that opened from our room: wine & cheese each evening! Our host, David, and his sister were always available to provide directions or suggestions. We were delighted with the free newspaper each day and the generous Wi-Fi allocation. The location was central for our purposes and very quiet. Napier is definitely worth a visit.

Right on Estuary @ Meeanee Quay for nice walking paths; 10 minutes walk to restaurants at West Quay and Bridge Street. But, have to take a taxi to downtown Napier - mine was NZ$16. Sleek, well designed buildings, so I really felt I was in a unique place and not a boring, plain motel. I felt very comfortable there. It is pristinely clean with new towels and dishes and nice sized rooms. Also has hotpot, blowdryer, coffee press, toaster, microwave and fridge. There are plenty of brochures and advice from David at the front desk. This was an excellent choice and a relaxing stay.
