“Beachfront, good size, unreliable internet”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

We've booked Edgewater for two nights and ended staying three. We stayed in a spa room and it was very good, a lot of space, good kitchen with all appliances, good bathroom, guest laundry. They could have a better exhausting system . It's beachfront, very near everywhere in the city. They have room service everyday - although because we usually wake up around 10, we're always woke up by them, The only down was the free wifi they offer - it was very unreliable, in 3 days it only worked one night. During the morning it was also coming and going out, so if you really need internet is better bringing your 3G. It's a nice place to stay, quiet, nice staff - we recommend it.

Great location, beautiful views, fully equipped kitchen. We had a two floor unit No 21 with 3 singles and a bathroom upstairs with a queen bed in the bedroom downstairs. Living area was spacious with a full dining table that seated 6. Despite being right on the road it was quiet enough for a great sleep. Parking was a bit of an issue but returning a little earlier from daytime activities meant you could get the pick of spots. The only fault was our downstairs shower, the water pressure was woeful, the water came out of the shower rose like a greenhouse mist not adjustable and not helpful when you have waist length hair to wash. The motel also had a BBQ and small spa area which would have been pleasant to use had travel itinerary and weather permitted.

We wanted a motel unit that would accommodate four adults and a 2 year old. We stayed in Unit 21 - a two bedroom motel unit that is on two floors. It had one bedroom downstairs with a double bed and a bedroom upstairs with three single beds and a bathroom on the upper floor also. It was great for us as we were able to have privacy upstairs and our own bedroom whilst our relatives had the bedroom downstairs. It has a fully equiped kitchen, TV and lounge area and a table that seats 6. The balcony has a great view of the beach. It can be a little noisy as it's right on Marine Parade but it quietens down at night time for a good night sleep (although the beds were a little lumpy but I guess it depends what sort of bed you're used to). The motel is in a great location as you can walk across the road to a children's play area (our 2 year old loved it!), the beach and a short walk to the shops/restaurants/aquarium etc. The motel unit was a little run down but very clean and tidy. The only fault I could find was the parking as the car park behind the motel is very small with limited parking spaces. We paid extra for having more than the usual amount of adults and yet we were asked to move one of our cars from the car park. When we explained we had paid extra we were told it would be ok. Other than that it was a lovely stay and we would return.

Hello Becz_Awa.
Thank you for your review and your comments. Because of the fact that you were a after hours late check in. The parking situation could not be explained to you on arrival and we were not to know that you had 2 vehicles. We have 1 park per unit available as off street parking with plenty of on street available to any extras. The reason you were asked to repark was because your 2 cars were taking up 3 spaces. Parking spaces are clearly marked and we do not charge any extra for extra cars.
Regards
Roy

My partner and I chose the Edgewater because it looked good from the outside, was on the beachfront, and had some good reviews. The manager has got to be the friendliest in NZ! Very welcoming, he was more than happy to share his knowledge of the area.

The room was nice, spacious, clean and had everything we needed, including a little balcony from which we could sit and watch the sun go down. Just around the corner from the art deco heart of Napier.

For less than $100 for the night, this was great value. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: We were upstairs, which I can imagine is better for those who want to enjoy the views.

We are a family of five and found the Edgewater is located in a great spot across the road from the play ground and mobile ice cream truck! The main town area is within easy walking distance. The host was very nice although she did seem some what rushed and didnt take much time explaining anything. We were in a down stairs room which was fine and very clean but if you have the choice pick an upstairs room as you can't see anything from down stairs and also it is quite noisy from the people upstairs walking around. One thing that was a huge issue for me was the parking!! Very very tight, we were in a ute which barely fitted in the spaces. Overall for what we got was on the expensive side.

Room Tip: Pick an upstairs room for the view and foot noise from above.

Booked this as a last minute trip. Room was decent took a 2 bedroom apartment.
Modern furnishings, sky TV, friendly host.

Room cleaning was pretty poor, there was still chips in the oven from who knows who. Chips also stuck on oven ledge when you opened the door. i noticed food and other inhabitants on the ground under lounge, as i dropped the remote and unforatuntely had to get onto the ground to pick it up.

The free wifi was tempremental....acutally most of the time i couldnt get service. Oh well i wasn't there to sit on the internet so i accepted.

We were on the gorund floor and the people above us were extremely heavy footed or large. Otherwise its only a thin sheet of paper between floors.

Good location, good price but i doubt i'd stay again

Room Tip: not the ground floor due to thin flooring

Sadly the weather did not help but when we checked in we had to ring the bell for a long time for somebody to come to the office , the Proprietor was fairly unintersted in the wait that we had .
He finally assigned us a down stairs room with a view which was hard to see because of the lousey weather and the salt spray on the windows which was no fault of the Proprietor because of the salt spray .
The room was as one would exspect for the price that we paid $115.00 per night but there are a few things that they maybe could look into in the future .
The Bedside lamps are positioned so high with the switch being up with the lights that we almost had to get on to a chair to turn off the lights at night .
when we arrived the room was tidy and we kept it as tidy as we could for the 3 days that we stayed but the cleaning staff have obviously never used a vacuum cleaner in their lives and proved that as our place was not Vacced at all . Over all we would say that we rated Edgewater at 4.5 out of 10 but bear in mind , you get what you pay for .

Room Tip: Dont forget to remember that everyone who comes in the door is the opportunity for an other sale !
